Last week over one hundred local supporters of public education participated in the annual Partners in Education golf tournament. Despite a persistent misty rain that fell on and off during the day, the tournament was an unquestioned success. Both from the standpoint of the participants, some of whom posted excellent scores, and PIE in terms of financial impact. Funds raised from the tournament go back into our schools. The classroom grants many of you applied for in recent weeks are funded from the tournament. When you have the opportunity, please express your appreciation for the support shown by our Partners.
Another important topic on the table is consideration of the 2016-17 school calendar. You should have received an email earlier this week with a link to provide your input on the options under review. No final decisions have been made. In fact, the Board of Education wants your comments. Survey results are not viewed as "votes" in the classic sense but rather as feedback to help them form their ultimate decision. Survey results will be shared at the November BOE meeting. Please take the time to share your thoughts.
I have seen a lot of amazing instruction in our classrooms this year. The first nine weeks have been good, leaving the remainder of the year with a good base. Thanks for all you do for our students.
Enjoy your break!

OPEN ENROLLMENT POINTS TO CONSIDER
|
 * FOR EMPLOYEES RETIRING AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR:
If you currently are not on State Health, in order to carry State Health insurance through retirement, you must go through open enrollment and elect coverage this year. If you fail to do so, you will never have an opportunity to get on State Health once you have retired.
* FOR EMPLOYEES WHO CURRENTLY PAY A SMOKING SURCHARGE: If you plan to keep your current coverage and have quit smoking this year, go through the open enrollment portal and answer the tobacco questions to stop paying the surcharge.
* REGARDING HIGH DEDUCTIBLE PLANS: This is the only plan with a slight rate increase and changes. Beginning Jan. 1, 2016 the entire family deductible no longer has to be met before benefits are payable. For more details, refer to the 2016 Decision Guide posted on our benefits website.
* REGARDING WELLNESS CREDITS: In the past, wellness credits would only roll over if you stayed with the same vendor. In 2016, all wellness credits will roll over and transfer between Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Health Care. The deadline to submit 2015 incentives to SHBP is Dec.15, 2015. Rollover credits will appear on your account by April 2016.
* FOR EMPLOYEES WHO WILL MAKE CHANGES DURING OPEN ENROLLMENT: If you plan to make changes, I recommend going through the portal instead of the call center. In the enrollment system click "Let us help you decide" and enter your medical information. State Health will compare all plans and let you know which plan will save you the most money.
* FOR CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES ONLY: If you are interested in enrolling in the Shared Savings Program for 2016, please contact Kathy Gossett in HR for more information.
