EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTH

A.Z. KELSEY

A.Z. Kelsey wants to recognize all of their employees this month for the level of professionalism and cooperation displayed during the administration of the EOG Georgia Milestones. Several high school teachers assisted with the test administration for the middle school students. Everyone's efforts were greatly appreciated.

GRIFFIN HIGH

Griffin High School would like to recognize our clerical staff for their outstanding work and dedication throughout this school year. We are proud to say that their loyalty and hard work have made a big difference. Many times we are judged by first impressions. Our clerical staff ensures that impression is good by always putting forth a smile and a courteous demeanor to our parents, students and community. Thank you so much for making "Everything Matter" at Griffin High School!

MAINSTAY ACADEMY

Mainstay Academy Employees of the Month are JauNessa Jackson and Cris Craft.  Both are new to their coordinator positions this year and have worked diligently throughout the year to lead our teachers and program toward excellence.  They are "in the trenches" with students, parents and staff members on a daily basis.  They have provided our teachers with instructional coaching and support. They have also worked well with special education directors and/ or coordinators from five county school districts.  They have been valuable members of our Mainstay Academy Leadership Team!!!

SPALDING HIGH

SHS would like to recognize Dr. Laura Ergle as Employee of the Month. Her commitment, work ethic and knowledge have been invaluable to our school.  The caliber of work she demonstrates in every endeavor or task is top notch. She is respected by staff and peers alike. As she moves forward into her new position as CTAE Director for our district, she will be greatly missed. But, the value she will bring to our school system and the CTAE program will take us to the next level. Thank you Dr. Ergle for always being a team player and for everything you have done to ensure the success of every student at Spalding High.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
Column by State School Superintendent Richard Woods

The month of May is home, if you ask me, to one of the most important days on the calendar. May 4-8 marks Teacher Appreciation Week, a time to recognize the outstanding educators who spend each day shaping our children's lives. And to also remember those who played a role in shaping us.

This, to us, is a very special time of recognition so we plan to celebrate for the entire month of May, rather than just one week. I encourage all Georgians to visit bit.ly/gadoethankateacher and download a special note of appreciation to send to your own favorite teacher. Then, snap a photo of your note and share it using the hashtag #thankagateacher.

SAVE THREE LIVES ON MAY 11!

The GSCS Central Office will be hosting their semi-annual blood drive on May 11, from 10 AM - 5 PM.  The blood drive donation bus will be parked on Poplar St. and will be open to anyone wishing to participate. All donors will receive a free lunch and complimentary gift.

Email julian.rafter@gscs.org to secure a time slot for your donation or just walk-in and donate.

The blood drive will be provided by LifeSouth Community Blood Centers which is the primary supplier of blood for Spalding Regional Hospital. The blood supply collected from our blood drive will stay in our community for local patient transfusion. LifeSouth only shares blood resources outside of our community after the local supply need is met.

Each year, nearly five million Americans need a blood transfusion and your one donation can save up to three lives!

If you have any questions on blood donation, contact LifeSouth at 888-795-2707 or visit www.lifesouth.org.

For questions about the GSCS blood drive contact Jillian Rafter at 770.229.3710 ext. 321 or jillian.rafter@gscs.org.
