EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTH

A.Z. KELSEY

A.Z. Kelsey Employees of the Month are the members of the PBIS team:  Keisha Etienne, Autumn Barnes, Tammy Thomason, Joet Williams, Mark Aqui, Jessica Sheffield, Jabril Willis and Michael Rucker.  These members have worked really hard to continue the effective implementation of the program.  They have arranged numerous activities during the year, donated items for student use and encouraged appropriate behavior.

GRIFFIN HIGH

Teaira Banks, 9th grade English teacher, is Griffin High's Employee of the Month. Ms. Banks works diligently to ensure that our 9th grade students take ownership of their learning. By utilizing learning target sheets her students monitor their progress and have peer conversations about the standards and expectations. Ms. Banks engages her students through direct, collaborative, individual and guided instruction. She holds mini conferences with her students to make sure they clearly understand the standards and gives them effective feedback to enhance their academic achievement.

MAINSTAY ACADEMY

Mainstay Academy's Employee of the Month is Donya Henderson. She joined our faculty late in the school year and has taken on one of our most challenging groups of students. She has met every challenge with a professional attitude and an appropriate sense of humor. She greets every day with a "can do" attitude and often works well after hours to plan and complete paperwork. She did a terrific job getting GAA portfolios completed in a very short window of time. Donya is a Mainstay Academy Hero!

SPALDING HIGH
SHS Employee of the Month is counselor, Cheryl Reddick. Her hard work and commitment to SHS should be recognized.  She was the Committee Chair for our first Iron Jag 5k obstacle course race and it was a huge success. Under her direction and organization, the committee worked hard to get over 200 participants and 42 sponsors for this event. The race ran smoothly and the students and community were very complimentary of the race. Thank you to Mrs. Reddick and the Iron Jag Committee for a job well done!

It is often said that the only thing in life that is constant is change. Well, that may be true. It's been less than 60 days since Dr. Jones announced that he would be a finalist for the Bibb County superintendent. How time flies! His hard work and dedication to the students and staff of GSCS for the last six years will be remembered. He believes in us. He believes that our hard work and determination over the last several years has prepared us to transition to new leadership. We have definitely worked hard. We should honor that and grow from that hard work. I wish him well in his new adventure.

Georgia Milestones testing begins next week at the elementary and middle school levels. Staff and students have been working hard all year to master content. It will be exciting to see these results and to see that hard work pay off.  Please be sure to help your students prepare for testing by reminding them to get a good night's sleep and to eat a healthy breakfast.  Most importantly, give them lots of encouragement to do their best.

This morning I was reminded of how precious life is by the tragic loss of one of our second-grade students. All of us should treasure each minute we have with our children and students.

As I begin my role as the interim superintendent I want you to know that I am honored to work alongside such a great team. Together we will make a difference in the lives of over 10,000 GSCS students and in our community.

Please enjoy this wonderful Easter weekend!

Sincerely,
Jim Smith
interim Superintendent
