SERVICE MATTERS AT GRIFFIN HIGH SCHOOL
Service is one of the core beliefs at GHS. During November and December, the GHS PBIS team challenged each Advisement class to complete a service project. Students met the challenge head on by making place mats for Thanksgiving for Brightmoor Nursing Home, making Christmas cards for troops and nursing home residents and creating boredom buster bags for patients at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta- Hughes Spalding.

Can you believe that in just a few short weeks we will be welcoming the start of New Year 2015? It seems like yesterday we were preparing for the start of another successful school year. The holiday season is now upon us bringing a cheerful season filled with giving, reflection and promise.
As the year ends I want to reflect on the many things we have to celebrate and reasons to give thanks.
I am very thankful to be working in a District with such passionate and committed staff who work every day to reach every student and help them achieve. Your daily support and encouragement is making a positive difference for each student whose life you touch.
I am thankful for the knowledge and leadership of our Board of Education for selflessly giving their time and talents to ensure all students have the opportunity to a quality education.
I am grateful to our community for their continuing support of our district and schools.
Thank you to all of our parents who give and give in any way possible and share their amazing students with us!
I am thankful for our students. They make us laugh, sometimes cry, but always amaze us with their creativity, curiosity and optimism. They challenge us to think. It is because of them that we dare to do better!
I wish all of you a great holiday season! Please enjoy time with your family and friends, keep warm and safe. Let's return to work in 2015 rested and ready to enthusiastically serve the next generation of leaders.
Happy Holidays!

GSCS is very pleased that our overall CCRPI increased. While the state went down four points we increased. GSCS is just less than two points below the state average. This is exciting news for us and helps to indicate that our instruction is improving student achievement. In addition, our elementary schools did very well. Moreland Road Elementary had our highest CCRPI with 87.1 and Beaverbrook gained 15 points! We are delving deeper into the scores and plan to have a report ready for the Board of Education at its January 6 meeting. "Our elementary schools did well but like the state we continue to struggle with middle school and high school. It will take additional study of the report to determine the details but I am very happy overall with our results," stated Dr. Curtis L. Jones Jr., Superintendent. |
