Great Job!!!

KENNEDY
ROAD MIDDLE

Kennedy Road would like to recognize Janet Boerner, A.K.A Coach B, as our Employee of the Month. She has helped to rebuild the athletic program and strengthen the need for scholarly athletes.  Coach B has helped lead the Lady Cougars to another successful basketball season. Her creation and leadership of the KRMS Olympic Week, which encompasses academics, athletics, and the PBIS program, has been a true success. Coach B, your hard work does not go unnoticed, thank you for all that you do!

REHOBOTH ROAD MIDDLE

RRMS's Employee of the Month is Theresa Lubin, assistant principal. She works hard every day to ensure that RRMS is doing what is best for students. She goes beyond the call of duty to make sure deadlines are being met, teachers are provided the resources they need, and that the principal is ahead of the game. I am not sure how we made it without her. She has been a great addition to our family!

Greetings!

My message this week is going to focus on the called Board of Education meeting on Monday, March 17. The only action that took place in the meeting was that the BOE passed a resolution.

Click HERE to read the resolution.

Toward the end of the meeting, some rather harsh words were said. I wanted to share my thoughts about what this means for our board and our school system.

First, the BOE took action on a serious matter which could not only impact our system's SACS accreditation but also affect them individually and collectively. This is a clear example of how the board governs itself, monitors itself and responds.

While the situation is unfortunate I take the exchange between the board members as a sign that they are willing to communicate with one another in an honest way.  Because the board deals with some very tough issues, open and honest communication is important.

Our Board of Education is not perfect and it does have room for growth and improvement. Please be encouraged and recognize that, just like all teams and families, there will be difficult times, but with support and training, better days are ahead.

This is Board of Education Appreciation Week. So please take this opportunity to thank our board members for their dedication and service to our school system.

Thank you and have a great week.

Curtis

REFELECTIONS OF INFLUENCE

Griffin's own Haskell Sears Ward has served Presidents and the Peace Corp. He has been a deputy Mayor of New York and an English teacher in Ethiopia.

Here's what he had to say at our Outstanding Student Banquet...

"It is from Griffin's schools where I learned the noblest virtues like honesty, truthfulness, faithfulness, sincerity, obedience, sympathy, self-sacrifice, and self-control."

Ward is not the only Griffin-Spalding graduate with good things to say about our school system. More...

iOS 7.1 DRAINING YOUR BATTERY?
TRY THIS...

Message from Lonny Harper, Instructional Technology Director

If you have already updated your phone or iPad to the new iOS 7.1 and have noticed a faster drain on your battery, follow these steps.

Steps 1 and 2 should do the trick, but if not, try step 3
(I only had to do steps 1 and 2).

1: Check / Disable Background App Refresh

After personally updating a handful of devices to iOS 7.1, a few of them re-enabled Background App Refresh seemingly at random. Background Refresh is a handy feature but it really impacts battery life since it lets apps keep active while not being used. If your battery life is mysteriously suffering post-update, check to see if this turned itself back on, then turn it OFF. If so:

Head to Settings > General > Background App Refresh > toggle to OFF for everything
