Dear GSCS Employees,
If any of you ever watched WWE wrestling on TV you may have seen Dwayne Johnson a.k.a. The Rock. One of The Rock's sayings was "Finally, The Rock is back!" and that is how I felt this week. Finally, the week of the 60th anniversary parade is here. I am writing this message on Thursday, the morning after the parade, as I reflect on our accomplishment one word comes to mind...fantastic! Seeing the different floats, marching units, schools, employees, organizations, and the crowd was amazing! What a sight it was to see our community cheering for our teachers, principals, assistant principals, staff and students as they paraded by. Griffin showed its support for public education and yesterday was the day. The community turned out. They were there for you. I particularly enjoyed being with many of you as we prepared for the parade; just seeing the excitement that surrounded all of us in the Food Depot parking lot. After the parade I overheard a comment that remained with me "the school system looked like a school system;" we were together as one. I want to thank you for the hard work that was put into showing our community who we are. I hope that you took as much pride in the parade as I did. It was very gratifying to see our first inductee class for the Educator Hall of Fame participating with us. I had the chance to speak with each of the inductees yesterday and I guarantee they were proud. I am looking forward to seeing them be officially inducted into our Hall of Fame tonight at the game. If it rains, our plans are to hold the induction on Saturday as we open the GSCS museum. And remember Saturday night from 5 - 9 p.m. at Memorial Stadium is our 60-year class reunion. You can still join in the fun! It has been a good 60th anniversary week; I hope that you all enjoyed it as much as I did. We have much to be proud of and have accomplished a lot. Congratulations! Enjoy your weekend, Curtis |
