2014 Review - 2015 Preview

2014 is now over, and a new year is in front of us.

In my video (click on the image below), I briefly do a recap on 2014, and then lay out my arguments for a long term approach, diversification, and reasons why I think being fully invested is wise, particularly as I continue to be optimistic  for the foreseeable future.

Click on the video below for 10 minutes of my thoughts.

Privacy Policy and ADV

Okay, I know privacy notices and my Form ADV could be considered boring, and after the video above (which you clicked on of course), you want a continuation of the most exciting new information in the world.

Well, privacy policies can sort of be interesting, can't they?

And my ADV tells you all kinds of things about me, like when I was born, where I went to school (Go Hurons!), and all about my professional registrations.  It also lists my outside activities, charities and other non-profits I'm involved in.

Have I sucked you into clicking on either of the links yet?  Don't say I didn't try.  (You know secretly want to).

Key Financial Information - 2015

A new calendar year also means a new tax year.

Back by popular demand is my Key Financial Information chart as a quick reference guide for you throughout the year.

I work with a number of good CPAs, so don't hesitate to contact me for guidance as a good CPA can be a valuable member of your financial planning team.

Russian Ruble Crisis:  Don't Panic like it's 1998

I remember the 1998 Russian crisis well.  It was near the end of the summer, and threatened to put a real damper on an otherwise excellent stock market year.   The "Moscow meltdown" bled over the S&P 500, which plunged 20%.

There are reasons  1998 and today are different
  1. Tough sanction in place have somewhat isolated Western investors
  2. Russia has a war chest of $416 billion in currency reserves today, versus very little in 1998
  3. Russia's currency is free floating, and not pegged to the US Dollar like in 1998.  External shocks can be absorbed by the currency markets.
There are other worries in the world we can be concerned about, but Russia collapsing and spilling over to us like 1998 isn't one of them.

Excited Puppy Spots its Owner

I'm not going to lie to you--I'm a total sucker for a cute dog video on the internet.

Yeah, yeah, I know, pretty sappy eh?

Every time I watch this video it makes me smile.  Wouldn't it be nice to be so lucky to have an animal or person be excited to see us like this puppy is for its owner?
