Get to Know our Season Finale Piano Soloist,

Quynh Shannon

The Savannah Philharmonic is delighted to present exquisite concert pianist, Quynh Shannon, as piano soloist for the Season Finale concert on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 7:30pm at the Johnny Mercer Theatre.

Quynh Shannon

Where are you from originally?
I'm from Hanoi, Vietnam.

At what age did you start playing the piano?
I started to play the piano when I was 5 years old and completed my training in Germany in 2006.

When did you meet your husband, Savannah Philharmonic Artistic Director and Conductor, Peter Shannon?

I met Peter in 1999 in Karlsruhe, Germany where we both studied.

When did you move to Savannah?
I came to visit Savannah first in December 2006 and really loved the beauty of the city and the hospitality here.  We moved to Savannah in February 2007.

What are you most looking forward to in playing under the baton of your husband in the Season Finale concert?

10 years ago I played Schumann's Piano Concerto under Peter at the Collegium Musikum Heidelberg.  It was a fantastic experience!  I'm looking forward to working with him again (as two musicians - not too much husband and wife!) and the Philharmonic in the Season Finale!

What do you enjoy most about playing Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor?
Grieg's Piano Concerto is a wonderful piece.  My two little boys always ask me to turn on "Mummy's Piano Concerto" on the way to daycare and every time they get so excited about the beginning of the first movement.  If I want to have a quiet time I turn on the second movement and the beauty of the melody keeps them in silence until we get to daycare!  It's a pity they never have the chance to hear the 3rd movement to the end but they know pretty well until the repeat. "Wow!  That is really really fast isn't it Mummy?  I wish I could play the piano too!," they say.  As much as my kids enjoy this piece, I hope the audience will enjoy it too!
