SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT: Holiday Pops Soloist Sponsor, Kelly Bouchillon of the Bouchillon, Ham & Dekle Group Merrill Lynch Wealth Management

Kelly L. Bouchillon, Sr.

CFP-Senior Vice President-Wealth Management

Wealth Management Advisor

What drew you to the field of Wealth Management?
While I was in high school and college I worked in our family business that my father, Hoke Bouchillon, started in 1969 here in Savannah.  At that point I became interested in the financial field and the business of Wall Street.  After graduation from the University of Georgia where I studied economics, I worked for two years in marketing for a large, privately owned oil refining company based in Philadelphia.  Since I had such a strong family tie to Savannah and my entire immediate family was here, I was looking for a way to transition back home.  After months of effort to get hired at Merrill Lynch, the opportunity was presented to work here and I began in 1989.  I initially was drawn here because I liked the business aspects of the financial field, however through the years I have found that the most important aspect of being truly invaluable to a client as an advisor is the ability to identify and solve problems of some sort for our clients, often where clients don't even realize those problems exist.  The ability to offer meaningful advice and input really only comes from the experience of having seen and worked through so many situations for our clientele and their families for nearly 25 years.

What is your favorite thing about living and working in Savannah?

My favorite thing about living here is the small town feel in a city type environment, one where you know so many people to help you get things done.  Also, being able to do the things you love without being the victim of traffic and too many people.

What does a typical Saturday in Savannah look like for you?

A typical Saturday for me is either spent attending a sporting event with kids, trying to survive an inconsistent golf game, or enjoying Wassaw Island or the Tybee sandbar by boat with my family and a few friends.

What drew you to get involved with the Savannah Philharmonic?

On the surface we have chosen to get more involved with the Savannah Philharmonic because we feel it represents one of the best things our community has to offer in terms entertainment experience.  There is, however, a more important connection than just entertainment value alone.  I also believe the Philharmonic's commitment to their patrons reflects similar values to our commitment to our clientele as evidenced by a story I heard.  I understand there was a long-time patron of the Philharmonic who was very ill and could not attend the performance as scheduled due to her confinement.  Determined not to disappoint her, and to attend to a long-time supporter, in an act of extreme kindness, Peter Shannon arranged for her to attend a dress rehearsal as a solo audience.  When I heard this story I immediately identified with the mindset of delivering above and beyond, which again reflects our own committed efforts to do what is best for our clients and to do whatever it takes to meet the needs of our clients.

Why do you believe the Savannah Philharmonic's and Bouchillon, Ham & Dekle Group's partnership is so important?

The Bouchillon, Ham and Dekle Group has well over 15 years of history supporting non-profit organizations, events, and charities in our community.  We want to drive a positive impact on events and organizations that are important and enjoyable for our clients.  This partnership is important to us because of the familiarity and common interest we share with many Philharmonic patrons.  Our Philharmonic partnership is simply an extension of that support to an organization that we feel shares not only a similar commitment to excellence but also similar values.
