Valentine's Day is almost here. Everywhere you look you see images of what the world tells you Valentine's Day is "supposed" to look like - a day complete with a box of yummy Russell Stover's or voluminous flowers from someone whose affection is reserved just for you. You know how it makes you feel when you don't receive those things - not "chosen, " like an overlooked princess on earth's big day of love.
Celebrations like Valentine's Day stir your heart bringing to light what it contains. What's bubbling in yours? A bit of sadness? Loneliness? "Nobody loves me."
Then stop it right there! Leave the lobby of your lower feelings and take the elevator to the upper deck, where Jesus, the lover of your soul awaits your entrance. YOU are the one He longs to court with His validation. YOU are the one He hovers over with a craving that beckons you to come.
Come. I am your Valentine. I will take you to dinner and romance you with My presence.
Come. I am your husband. I will keep you safe till death do us part.
Come. I am your champion. I will lead you into an expansive life of purpose and joy.
Come. I am your avenger. I will fight every "single mom" battle for you.
Come. I AM. I am. I am. What do you need? I am the solution.
Oh, precious single moms, embrace Jesus. He's MORE THAN an assortment of rose buds that will eventually wilt, MORE THAN a pink polka-dotted balloon that will shrivel into nothing, MORE THAN a stuffed cupid that will collect dust, MORE THAN a pop-up Valentine card that will eventually end up in the trash, MORE THAN an array of milk chocolates that will only taste good for a moment and forgotten tomorrow. He's MORE THAN whatever your earthly appetite desires.
So let Him pull you into His love chamber and receive His words spoken to you right out of the Bible - the Song of Solomon. Shhhh, listen carefully. He's whispering ever so tenderly:
"You alone make my heart beat fast.
You are altogether beautiful, my darling. Oh, how lovely you are!"
I LOVE YOU, dear one. And yes, I'm praying you and Jesus have a splendid Valentine's Day tomorrow.
