We meet so many great neighbors that are looking for a way to give back to our beautiful neighborhood and our annual election is the perfect opportunity to join our board and contribute!  In addition, we have volunteer opportunities ranging from special projects to committee participation to board member seats.

What a perfect way to lend your time and talents to continue to develop our neighborhood into a diverse and vibrant community!

Here are some of our committees:
  • Community Enhancement
  • Communications (including social media)
  • Condominium living associations
  • Events
  • Membership and promotion of our South Loop'on program

About the board:
We have an 11 member Board of Directors and 6 of our director positions are expiring this year.  Each Board member is elected for a two-year term by the current sitting Board members. The Board then elects the officers for the upcoming terms (President and Vice President are 2 years each with the VP succeeding to the President. Nomination forms are available on our website and should be submitted either via email or to a current board member by Monday, September 28th.

We invite all community members to get involved - either by seeking Board or committee membership.  If you don't feel you have the time to commit to either of those roles, we still encourage you to get involved in the community by attending community events, neighborhood and association meetings and by supporting our local businesses.

Volunteer Opportunity!

ITU World Triathlon Family Fun Area

When:  September 16-19th

 

We're excited to announce that the GSLA has been selected to be in charge of this year's ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Family Fun Area in Chicago (September 16-19).  

We are calling for volunteers, kid-centric vendors, booths, entertainment and activities to help showcase Chicago for an international community of racers and their families. Sign up, ask questions or volunteer at info@greatersouthloop.org.
 

Here's the scoop on the event:

Chicago will welcome 150 of the world's top Olympic-distance triathletes as they compete for a world championship title less than a year prior to the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games. In addition to the elite races, the event features top-flight sprint and Olympic-distance races for age-group athletes, paratriathletes, juniors and under-23s, as well as an aquathlon to kick off the action. In all, more than 8,000 of the world's best triathletes will compete for world titles over four days of competition.

The ITU World Triathlon Grand Final and World Championships are hosted by USA Triathlon, the National Governing Body for the sport of triathlon in the United States, and Lagard�re Unlimited Events North America. Launched in 2009, the ITU World Triathlon Series is televised in more than 160 countries. Visit chicago.triathlon.org for more information.

 

 

Night Out: Chicago Symphonic Winds performance

Chicago Symphonic Winds is excited to be part of the Chicago Park Districts annual night out in the parks series.  Chicago Symphonic Winds performs a concert of entertaining wind music that spans the history of the medium. Join CSW for a family friendly concert and stick around following the performance for a chance to meet the musicians and learn more about the instruments with an up and close hands-on opportunity!

 

South Loop Farmers Market

When: Thursday Nights thru October 8th | 4-8pm

 


The market will be held every Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM beginning June 25th through October 8th 2015. The market will take place at 1936 S. Michigan Avenue in the parking lot adjacent to the Second Presbyterian Church.  With a prime location and strong marketing partnerships, the market will reach our diverse South Loop community and beyond.                 

 

The South Loop Farmers Market proudly accepts LINK and Senior Farmers Market Coupons. The market team will curate a selection of 25 vendors selling a variety of fresh fruit, vegetables, plants, flowers, baked goods, meats, and some prepared foods.  The market will also include weekly children's activities, and a monthly cultural performance program (education, literary, and music) in the sanctuary of the beautiful church.

Fine Arts Building Studios is a collective made up of visual artists, musicians, performers, yoga ad dance instructors as well as a unique bookstore located in the historic Fine Arts Building.  We open our doors to the public on the 2nd Friday of every month.

 

Connecting with the community, we share and discuss all aspects of our work in a casual and relaxed setting.
