BASH ON WABASH CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS, VENDORS and TALENT
Do you have an interest in helping out in your community? Or, a local business you'd like to promote? How about a family friendly talent you want to share? Then we want you! GSLA's Bash on Wabash is Saturday, August 23rd and Sunday, August 24th this year. We're looking for vendors, performers and volunteers to help with this event. Our family fun area will have programming from noon to 6pm, and we'd love to focus on local talent--storytelling, music, sports, dance, and crafts are just the thing. This is also a great time for local businesses to highlight their products and services, even if you're not brick and mortar, with a booth in our main area. And, we need volunteers to help at the gates, in our tent and the family fun area. Come out, show your stuff, meet your neighbors and have some fun. Email info@greatersouthloop.org to sign up or get more information.

Ping Tom Memorial Park's 12-acre site was originally a Chicago and Western Indiana Railroad yard located along the edge of the South Branch of the Chicago River in he Armour Square Community. In 1998, the Chicago Park District began transforming the old rail-yard into a beautiful rolling green space, taking full advantage of impressive river views. The park has a children's playground, community gathering areas, and Chinese landscape design elements.
In June of 2013, the Chicago Park District opened a new boat house in Ping Tom Park. The boat house offers kayak rentals during the summer season and a public dock that is available for use by non-motorized boats during park hours. Restrooms are also available to the public when the boathouse vendor is operating. For details on hours of operation, please visit www.urbankayaks.com.

Film Description
Deep in the rain forests of Grenada, anarchist chocolatier Mott Green seeks solutions to the problems of a ravaged global chocolate industry. Solar power, employee shareholding and small-scale antique equipment turn out delicious chocolate in the hamlet of Hermitage, Grenada.
Finding hope in an an industry entrenched in enslaved child labor, irresponsible corporate greed, and tasteless, synthetic products, Nothing like Chocolate reveals the compelling story of the relentless Mott Green, founder of the Grenada Chocolate Company (GCC). [grenadachocolate.com]
Relocating from Oregon to Grenada in 1998, headstrong and driven, Mott Green set out to make chocolate, from the tree to the bar, using recycled antique equipment. Wondering "would we really learn how to make great chocolate?", the neophyte entrepreneur leased 100 acres of land from a neighboring estate and established the Grenada Organic Chocolate Co-operative.
Within 5 years, the co-operative was producing 9 to 10 tons of local organic chocolate.
Nothing Like Chocolate looks at this revolutionary experiment, focusing on how solar power, appropriate technology and activism merge to create a business whose values are fairness, community, sustainability and high quality.
How successful will this bold experiment be? The Grenada Chocolate Company produces less than 1% of the world's chocolate, while at least 43% of cocoa beans come from Ivory Coast, where trafficked child labour is exploited to harvest cocoa. In the chocolate industry, Mott's way of doing things delicious chocolate, organics co-operatives, employment for local communities is unusual.
From currency to candy, chocolate reflects a rich history saturated with sacred ritual, endorphin highs, hip anti-oxidants, exotic sensuality and high quality luxury. Nothing Like Chocolate adds new depth to the stories of chocolate.
"Mixing the bitter with the sweet, the factual and the idealistic, the documentary Nothing like Chocolate gives a macro and micro perspective on the beloved sweet stuff. Smartly directed..." Josef Woodard, Santa Barbara Independent
"An engaging movie that provokes both the brain and the taste buds." Brent Simon, Shockya.com
