Chicago Women's Park and Gardens
New Center Director for Women's Park
|
Sarah Unz is joining the Women's Park team as Center Director. With over 10 years of experience in community outreach and stewardship, Sarah is well positioned to lead the growth of Women's Park as a community resource. For the past year, Sarah has worked with the Chicago Park District's Culture, Arts, and Nature Department facilitating outdoor and environmental education programs throughout the entire city of Chicago. Sarah brought several of these programs to Women's Park. They include Toddlers, Tunes, and Turtles in conjunction with the Lakeside Bank community event, Nature Oasis Play Camp brought to play camp registrants during summer, and a Winter Bonfire where they roasted marshmallows and enjoyed a night out in the Park.
Prior to joining the Chicago Park District, Sarah worked as the Director of Programs and Membership at a nonprofit organization in the greater Chicago area. Sarah moved to the South Loop in 2011 with her husband and 2 dogs after living in Madison, WI for 11 years. Sarah studied Recreation Resources Management and Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, obtaining her BS in Natural Resources. She enjoys gardening, cooking, and yoga. Sarah looks forward to connecting community members to the Park through excellent programming and customer service.

South Loop Elementary 10th Annual Spring Benefit |
Friday, May 10th from 6 -10PM
McCormick Place Hyatt
2233 Martin Luther King
The 10th Annual Spring Benefit promises to be a wickedly good time! It's a dressy evening event full of fun, dancing, libations and plentiful food at a newly-redecorated ballroom in the elegant Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. Our emcees will be Andrea Darlas from WGN Radio and Rick Pearson from the Chicago Tribune! We hope you will join your fellow South Loop Parents, Teachers, Administration and neighbors as we celebrate 10 years of the "brain, heart, and courage" which has become South Loop School.
Planning to come, but need childcare? Bring your munchkins to the school so they can play with their friends! Spots are limited and we don't like turning families away, so don't wait until you see the tornado on the horizon before making this important reservation.
Each year, the Spring Benefit supports annual fundraising efforts of Friends & Family of South Loop School (our nonprofit organization). This year's overall goal is to raise $100K towards expanded technology for our Early Childhood Center, and Spanish instruction for all of our students. Please use the Donation, Advertising, and Sponsorship forms to start a conversation with local businesses about helping us reach this ambitious goal. There are many ways to get involved - contact us at 2013.emerald.city@gmail.com. Learn more & download forms click here

Living a Life of Balance: A Mindful Living Morning for Women
Saturday, May 11, 2013
|
Please join us for a time of self-care facilitated by Dr. Mary Lynn Colosimo. The morning will include a healthy breakfast followed by a time of gentle yoga, meditation, lecture, discussion and an optional Thai yoga massage. We will discuss and engage in activities to bring balance into the lives of busy women, find yoga postures to help us relax and even sleep better at night, and create an art project to conclude the day. This interactive workshop is great for women attending alone and even better when a few friends attend together!
The following is a tentative schedule of the day's events:
9:00 Breakfast 9:30-10:30 Lecture and Discussion 10:30-11:30 Yoga and Meditation 11:30 -12:00 Art Project and optional Thai Yoga Massage
Childcare is provided at $20 per child for the entire morning.
Dr. Mary Lynn Colosimo received a bachelor's and a master's degree from Bradley University and a PhD from the University of Chicago. She has taught psychology at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois, for more than 20 years and recently began teaching yoga there as well. She also teaches yoga at The Center for Body and Soul in Palos Heights. Mary has always been interested in self-concept development and more recently has focused on the mind-body connection. Her yoga classes combine asanas with meditation. She is married and has four adult daughters.
