TRAILBLAZER COMPANIES TO PROVIDE MOMENTUM FOR UPCOMING CAMPAIGN

The Tulsa Area United Way has announced a roster of  Trailblazers - companies and organizations that will conduct early campaigns this summer in advance of the United Way's traditional fall fundraising campaign.

 

The Trailblazer companies agree to conduct "model" campaigns, following certain best practices prescribed by the United Way. They also challenge themselves to significantly increase their campaigns over last year.  

 

"We believe it's important to move ahead and provide energy and momentum to the upcoming campaign," said Matt Pivarnik, executive vice president and chief operating officer at the Tulsa Regional Chamber and chair of the 2013 Trailblazer campaign.   

 


GO OVER THE EDGE FOR YOUR COMMUNITY

Young professionals and other supporters of the Tulsa Area United Way can stand up for their community and go "Over the Edge" of a 20-story tower on Friday, Oct. 4.

 

The opportunity to rappel over the edge of the Warren Place tower at 61st St. and Yale Ave. will be available to the first 66 individuals who pledge or raise at least $1,000 for the Tulsa Area United Way. Participants do not need experience in rappelling.

DAY OF CARING TO KICK OFF WITH CELEBRATION OF VOLUNTEERS

The Tulsa Area United Way's annual Day of Caring will kick off with a free breakfast and program at 7 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, 2143 S. Olympia Ave.

 

After the breakfast and program, Day of Caring participants will disperse to more than 350 job sites located across the Tulsa area. Several job sites will be located in the Eugene Field neighborhood and Red Fork area in southwest Tulsa.  

 

"Holding our breakfast and kick off program in the Eugene Field neighborhood where we will be completing service projects really gets at the heart of what the Day of Caring is all about," said Mark Graham, TAUW president and CEO.

CAMPAIGN GOAL TO BE REVEALED AT LEGENDARY JENKS-UNION GAME



Football Fans at Backyard Bowl

 

The Tulsa Area United Way will announce its annual goal and kick off its campaign at the MidFirst Backyard Bowl between Jenks and Union High Schools on Friday, Sept. 13, at the University of Tulsa's Chapman Stadium.

TOM'S STORY




 

Tom Hanlon A slowdown in the construction industry left Tom Hanlon without insurance.

 

A few months after he was forced to drop his insurance, Tom suffered from an outbreak of the MRSA bacteria, which is resistant to most antibiotics. He was sick for more than eight weeks.

 

During his illness, nurses from the Visiting Nurse Association of Tulsa, a United Way partner agency, visited his home every day to measure his vitals and administer medication.
