Dear C12 Members & Friends,

Success is relative to potential, right?  We measure and celebrate performance versus expectation or historical trends, whether that's in terms of earnings, revenue, volume or market share.  These measures serve as the basis of much of our strategic planning as we set new targets regularly to keep nudging things up and to the right.  How well do we assess, measure and then plan when it comes to the spiritual capital or eternal performance metrics of our business?

Take out a piece of paper and tally up these figures: your total employee count (part-time, full-time, W2 and 1099s), their family members, contractors, job applicants you interview annually, vendor reps, current customers (annual), recently lost customers, suppliers/vendors who contact you, competitors, trade associates, and people touched by your advertising annually.  What's that number?

When 42 leaders from 28 companies in South Texas met together on October 12th for a "Strategic Plan for Ministry" workshop in San Antonio the number they came up with was  2,473,250. When you account for recent research showing at least 70% of those are "unchurched," the "potential" impact upon unchurched people by these local businesses was 1.73 million.  That means these local businesses have a greater missionary opportunity than all of the megachurches in their regions combined!  When measuring how well a business is doing at being eternally relevant and missional in operation the performance must be measured against that "market index" and strategies need to be crafted accordingly!  Participating companies walked away from the workshop with a Christ-centered mission statement, a quantified mission field, a working plan of how to integrate ministry into their operations and near term goals/objectives for moving things forward.  Where do you stand on these key components?

During that October 12th event both Buck Jacobs (C12 Founder &  Chairman) and Bill Hybels (Author/Pastor, Willow Creek Community Church) challenged local business leaders to get serious about glorifying God through their businesses AS a ministry.  Some key issues we discussed included having a mission statement that truly drives business operation, integrating our business into our Christ-walk instead of visa versa, the key of running a good business so we can do good ministry, the abundance of opportunities on a daily basis we have to glorify God in the way we conduct business, and leading in light of eternity (Rom 14:10-12, 2 Cor 5:10).

If you would like to find out how we addressed these topics, the tools we employ or collaborate with other like-minded leaders who are answering those very questions from the same shoes you're in, contact us today.

As business leaders, we have been entrusted with so much in this life -- not just the financial or strategic leverage, but the Kingdom leverage that will influence this and future generations.  If we look at our time on Earth as a vapor compared to the infinite amount of time we will be in God's presence, it reinforces the fact that we truly only have one chance in this life, so make it count!  With that said, why do many of us obsess over how secure and financially independent we are in this bit of life we have in the flesh?  Are we truly being the leader God has called us to be? Good questions and one of the many pivotal issues we will answer during C12's November board meetings.

DEVOTION
Solomon: Wise Man or Fool? (Deut 17:14-20)

What's your summary 'take' on Solomon's leadership?  What would someone observing you say if asked the same question about your leadership?  Solomon's Biblical instructions were clear, as are ours.  We can take one of two paths... one leads to "vanity" and meaninglessness, the other to "treasures in Heaven."

Working 'on' my BUSINESS

Case Study: Sell the Business?

Sometimes unsolicited 'slam dunk' offers, seeming to promise a brighter path forward, are dropped in our laps.  How do we evaluate them?  Is it all about the money?  How do we count the cost?  Can opportunism and stewardship go hand-in-hand?  This real-life case study brings us face-to-face with what we truly believe as CEOs.

Working 'on' my MINISTRY in God's Business
The Eternal Perspective of 'Things'
Growth in assets and cash flow is a primary scorekeeping means in business.  This can easily bleed over into our personal lives and lifestyles.  Can excessive accumulation of the 'things' of this world erode our godly influence as leaders?  As those entrusted with much, we have great latitude coupled with great responsibility in stewarding earthly resources!
