If we're going to "lead where we are," we have got to take the time to work ON the business of our leadership. When God wants to begin a new work
in the world, He almost always starts by speaking into the heart of one person.  Drawing up the courage to listen, obey and share the vision with others, these are the people we call leaders."
~ Bill Hybels
Dear C12 Members & Friends,

On August 9-10, 150 C12 member company staff in South-Central Texas joined 1,600 other area leaders locally and 70,000 leaders nationally for the Global Leadership Summit.  Our members heard from speakers like Jim Collins, Condoleeza Rice, Patrick Lencioni, John Ortberg, Bill Hybels and many others.  Many of the topics proved a continuation of issues we were engaging on in recent C12 Board Meetings, as we've done some pretty heavy lifting on the topics of organizational health in recent months.

There was an energy to having the teams together for a shared learning experience that is world-class!  Many of our members used break time to wrestle with key questions from the day, like "Lencioni's 5 Questions of what we exist for, what we really do, what matters to us, where are we going?" and the principles of durative greatness from Collin's talk on "Great by Choice."

You can review a synopsis of the conference by reviewing these notes compiled by one of our C12 members.  The maxim of "leaders are learners, leaders are readers" certainly resonated as true throughout the event.  The real question then becomes, what's your plan as a leader to both continue learning throughout the year and engaging in a consistent accountability process to actually be "doers of the Word, not just hearers" as Jesus said?

If we're going to "lead where we are," we have got to take the time to work ON the business of our leadership. Take a moment to explore the transforming power of the C12 Group.  See how our members out perform non-member peers in business performance measurement and what it truly means to "Build a Great Business for a Greater Purpose".

Blessings,

DEVOTION
Working for an Audience of One (Col 3:23-24)

Half of our waking hours are spent in the workplace.  Why do we work?  Who are we working for?  Who do we hope to impress?  As Biblical Christians, we may 'know' that we live one life under Christ's Lordship and that our work serves as worship and stewardship, and is key to pursuing our eternal purpose... but what is really driving us?

Working 'on' my BUSINESS

Measuring HR Effectiveness
Human Resources Management is a grossly misunderstood element of business that has spawned popular, yet cynical, comic strips, TV shows, and movies.  This segment provides a self-assessment opportunity aimed at helping us see sound HR not as a delegated administrative function, but as a key to effective leadership, management, team performance, and a healthy workplace.

Working 'on' my MINISTRY in God's Business
Tested Tactics

As those entrusted with leadership of Christ's businesses and people, we can learn much from those who have faithfully walked before us.  We examine our role in the context of being missionaries to the marketplace by discussing six practices shared by three well-known faith heroes.
