Dear Friends,
|
...for to you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord....
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to all men."
Each day, I try to take a moment to center myself and re-grasp what Christmas means. We know that it's the child who changed way we view the world. But Jesus is a baby. What he will accomplish and become for the world are still literally nascent. That aura of Christmas possibility, hope and potential is at the core of the Holy Land experience -- at the time of Jesus' birth and today.
In the land that birthed the three Abrahamic faiths, Christianity, Judaism and Islam, turmoil and fear have been the norm for thousands of years. We can't change the tide of history, but each of us can offer real, immediate comfort and hope to families in our Holy Land who have little of either. We can stabilize Christian communities and make a real difference in lives today.
Thank you, thank you to each of you who support education, healthcare, rehabilitation and pastoral care for those of all faiths who proclaim one God. That's the real Christmas gift.
The Most Rev. Suheil Dawani, Archbishop in Jerusalem, shares his gratitude with each of you: "I give thanks to God for your standing with us and supporting the ministries of the Diocese of Jerusalem, especially in Gaza. I pray that this Christmas season will fill you once again with all hope, love, peace, and joy." His steadfast hope in that volatile land is a great blessing to us all.
And finally, AFEDJ's Chairman, the Rt. Rev. Barry R. Howe, sends this warm wish: "May the celebration of the birth of the Christchild renew in us God's assurance of His divine presence, enveloping us with an intimate love that is unconditional and everlasting!" Amen.
- Anne Lynn, President, AFEDJ
