INDUSTRY ANALYSIS

WHAT DOES YOUR AVERAGE CUSTOMER LOOK LIKE?

man eating in restaurant

A recent survey of thousands of quick service and casual diners determined that the standard patron is a Caucasian man, 25 to 34 years old. He usually is accompanied by a spouse or significant other and dines in more often than taking out.

Once at a restaurant, men of this profile value food quality and taste over other factors like service or value.

UC Davis conducted a study and found that fast-food dining is most popular among middle-income, versus lower-income, contrary to many assumptions about the quick service demographic.

A KITCHEN DISPLAY SYSTEM

WILL BENEFIT YOUR BOTTOM LINE

KDSIf you're still using paper tickets in the kitchen, you're doing the same thing you've always done and are missing ways to improve productivity and efficiency in your restaurant.  Have you considered a Kitchen Display System?

KDS will improve your operations in the following ways:

Even with a MICROS Video Display System (basic KDS functionality, available for the MICROS e7 or MICROS LES 9700 Systems, which can mimic Remote Kitchen Printers and more), you can reduce or eliminate the amount of paper and ribbons you use, so your kitchen will be more environmentally friendly and cost-effective. A recent study showed that on a standard 3-KDS setup with 1 expo printer vs. a 3-printer setup, the break-even point for dollars spent on upgrading to the KDS was less than 1 year in paper and ribbon-savings alone.

For the KDS integrated to the MICROS RES 3700 System, that system will allow you to monitor how long each dish/course/person is taking to get from order to plate in an objective manner.  No more guessing about which station dragged your kitchen into the weeds.  It's all there for you to analyze.  One KDS user discovered that it was actually the Expediter, not the Prep Stations, causing the delays.  They brought in a second expo during their busy times and were able to increase throughput by 28%.

Also, you will be able to objectively grade your employees on the line and determine who should be getting a raise and who should be getting more training. You'll be surprised how often the objective data contradicts your intuition--after reading the reports.

KDS for MICROS RES 3700 will provide real-time "at-a-glance" information regarding the status of your kitchen.  Just glancing at the expo screen can alert chefs and managers to mounting issues based on color-coded warnings and the number of tickets NOT showing on the screen through the "tickets to the right" counter.

Plus, an "all-day" feature allows you to see exactly how many of everything you need to have working at any given time for all orders in the kitchen.  Never be short on your orders again.

Finally, a production item counter allows you to always have enough fries, patties, whatever the case may be, working at any given time. If all of your sandwiches come with fries and you have five sandwiches working, there will be a Fries-5 at the top of the screen, allowing your cooks to know exactly how many they need to have working.  You will never lose another crab cake sandwich under the heat lamps because it was waiting on fries!

OPTIMIZE YOUR GOOGLE PLACES PAGE

Google Places Google Places pages are an untapped and underutilized marketing channel most businesses continue to bypass, yet they offer tremendous exposure and directly influence the most important online channel for any brick-and-mortar business; Google's organic search results.

The most effective type of restaurant marketing is at the local level, and perhaps the best resource local exposure on the internet is Google Places.  Restaurant marketers should first and foremost focus on Places before you worry about your website, or your Facebook Page or your Twitter account.

Why?  First, because it's free!

Secondly, when it comes to being found in local search from consumers with strong intent (looking for a place to eat) Google Places is extremely powerful. Because local search results garner not only the highly coveted top left section of the first page of local Google searches, it is also a critical piece to making sure that your restaurant will be found when people are searching Google Maps on their mobile phone.
