The Magic of Friendships! In 2005, in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, Princewill Oyakhilome and the members of the Benin City Metropolitan RC, District 9140, had a dream. The dream was created as a result of an assessment, thus a discovery that would ultimately be life changing. These Rotarians found, within mere miles of their homes, Nigerians without clean water, sanitation, and sometimes all the simple things that others took for granted. They found a need; a need that led to the dream of building a water well within one of those villages. Read More... |

India
A 92-year old primary school at Uliyakovil, Kollam City in the Kerala state of India has been adopted by the Rotary club of Kollam City. Various community services have been implemented including construction of water tanks and toilets. The local government's pipeline has now failed and the RC of Kollam City has provided a well, electric motor, water tank and supply taps which are all up and functioning. The club is now looking for additional resources to improve and upgrade the systems - a total of $1500. If your club is interested in this great project go to Water for LPS Uliyakovil, India
Vypin - with an estimated population of approximately 200,000 (2001 statistics) is one of the most densely populated islands in the world. Formed after a heavy flood in 1341 A.D., Vypin is a rapidly developing industrial suburb of Kochi City, Kerala. Clean water is scarce and costly as most of it is shipped in via tankers and barges. The Rotary club of Cochin Central has identified rainwater harvesting as a viable solution to Vypin's problems and, in 2011, successfully implemented a pilot project in St. Mary's Convent School. Twenty additional rooftop rainwater sites have been identified with a per unit cost of $2250. If your club is interested, please go to Rainwater Harvesting for Vypin
