I'm starting to feel like a broken record (and giving away my age with that reference!). Every month, I feel shocked that a new month is already here. How can that be? I haven't finished what I needed to do last month, and here is a new one on my calendar!
And so here we are in February. January is already gone, and with it all the work and excitement of beginning a new year!
February really has a lot going on.
First and foremost in most people's minds, is Valentine's Day, February 14th, the day of love, of hearts and flowers, red, pink and lavender. It is a nice bit of bright color in this otherwise dark and often dreary month. Valentine's Day is so fun to celebrate with loved ones and friends, children and adults, and is a great excuse to thank all those in our lives for being there for us, making our lives full and vibrant. We are ready to help, with expert advice, gift wrap and lots of lovely things from which to choose!
Other occasions fall in February as well. One I always try to remember is Wear Red for Women's Heart Health. Since most of our lovely customers are women, I think it's important to support the education of all of us about this issue. This year, Wear Red is on Friday February 5th. So wear red, and encourage your friends an co-workers to do the same. Come by the store to pick up a lapel pin, and we'll also have some informative education cards about women's heart health.
Next in the lineup is Lunar New Year, or Chinese New Year, on February 8th. a great day to enjoy some Chinese food and get in the mood. This year, number 4713 on the Chinese calendar, is the Year of the Monkey.
According to Chinese Five Elements Horoscopes, Monkey contains Metal and Water. Metal is connected to gold. Water is connected to wisdom and danger. Therefore, we will deal with more financial events in the year of the Monkey. Monkey is a smart, naughty, wily and vigilant animal. If you want to have good return for your money investment, then you need to outsmart the Monkey. Metal is also connected to the Wind. That implies the status of events will be changing very quickly. Think twice before you leap when making changes for your finance, career, business relationship and people relationship. (courtesy ChineseFortuneCalendar)
Then, after Valentine's Day, this year on Sunday the 14th, is President's Day on the 15th. This is when we celebrate both the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln (whose actual birthday is the 12th) and George Washington (whose is on the 22nd).
Personally, to this I add my husband's birthday and my mother-in-law's birthday - this will be her 93rd! She is moving into a new living situation this month, so we are going to be able to celebrate with her at the same time we clear out her apartment. When I return, I will try to channel both Lincoln and Washington as I appear for jury duty.
I have a feeling this is going to be a very busy month!

How Do I Love Thee? Let Me Count the Ways...
On each of the first 14 days of February, enter to win a daily drawing! Just for fun, just 'cause we love you!
How Do I Love Thee? (Sonnet 43)
Elizabeth Barrett Browning, 1806 - 1861
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for right.
I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
