September, and Fall in general, seems to be a time when we change our focus. School begins again, the weather changes, there's not much to recommend the garden (mine, anyway!), the days lose the light early, and suddenly we want to eat spaghetti and squash - heavier, richer foods. It's as though we think we're going to need to hibernate, or something!
It's also a great time for projects - sewing, knitting, taking a class to learn how to make pots or jewelry or fused glass. The desire/need to create seems to be awakened!
This year is the first Seattle Made event, a city-wide celebration of local products, producers, makers, and the retailers and restaurants that feature them. We are participating (naturally) by showcasing our Seattle artists throughout the store and in displays of artist processes.
Come in both Saturdays, the 19th & 26th, to learn about marbling silk and how to tie a scarf from our very own Paige Bauer, sample offerings of 11 Olives olive oils and balsamic vinegars and Chocolati truffles. On Sunday the 20th we will add B. Fullers' teas to the mix.
And Saturday the 26th, Gina McCauley will demonstrate the needle felting technique she uses in the creation of her Snooter Doots - those wide-eyed soft sculpture fruit, vegetables and animals no one can resist!
See below for details on our events, and check out
seattlemade.org for more info.
Fall is also the Best of Western Washington contest! We are nominated in the
Best Gift Shop category, and would love to win that title this year! So please log in and
vote for us - it's easy!
Contest runs through October 23rd, but there's no time like the present!
