August is here, and always a surprise! Especially this year, it seems. The general consensus among Crackerjack customers and employees is that since we didn't have our usually gloomy and cool June, we're all confused about what month it is! Because June was so clear, I fully took in the late sunsets and now bemoan the fact that the sun sets so early. I'm having a sense of fall, even, since so many plants and trees are confused as well, and are performing ahead of schedule!

    At Crackerjack, August is sort of a transitional month. We are in the middle of our sale, and beginning to think about the holidays. "No!", you say, but - yes we are! Crazy, I know, but such is retail - in this moment, but with our brains working on the future. There is a brief moment - right now! - when I feel the burden lift before I step into the holiday mode of budgets and buying and planning. This is when I enjoy the garden the most, despite its state this year, just sitting outside working, coffee at hand. And maybe later, reading, with a Mojito at hand!
