Noteworthy May!

May is an extremely busy month at Crackerjack!

First of all, it's our 29th Anniversary on May 3! I can't believe it's been so long - a lifetime, it seems! When I think back on all the customers and the employees and the artists, I am truly amazed, and truly grateful!

Then, from May 4th - 10th, join us as we celebrate Children's Book Week. I still love kid's books - I think young adult books may be my favorite genre! And I remember with such fondness the hours and hours reading, staying up too late to read "just one more chapter". I still recall learning all about the making of maple syrup and how to create a latch for a cabin door from Little House in the Big Woods, the thrill of Over Sea, Under Stone and the magic of Narnia. Books were one of my favorite gifts - I saw them as a gift that I could open again and again.

Help us give that experience to kids who otherwise would not know the joy of being the first one to crack open a new book (see Upcoming Events below). Come in and tell us what childhood memories you have of special books. At the end of the week we will hold a drawing with some great gifts!

May, most notably, is the month of Mothers, when we celebrate and appreciate them, and those who have taken something of a mother's role in our lives - the aunts, the friends, the grandmothers and teachers. It's a sweet time of year - definitely Spring, now, and full of flowers and warm days.

We love helping you celebrate Mother's Day, and have so many new choices in the store for you. Fresh clothing is arriving almost daily, now, as is jewelry from both favorite artists and new artists! Our soap and lotion selection is a perfect way to tell Mom to treat herself to some luxury, a bottle of infused olive oil or balsamic will add flair to her cooking, and what could be better than a Harmony Lantern (even if it does have a cord!)

Next on the agenda are the graduates, and don't forget those special teachers who have added so much to your child's life. Let us know who you are shopping for - we're very good at helping with ideas! And we can gift wrap, too!

Don't know what to give, but love Crackerjack? We can make a Gift Certificate in any denomination and make it pretty to give as well!

And don't forget to check out the Wallingford Center Events Page - there are lots of things going on throughout the Center all month - don't miss out!

 Children's Book Week - May 4 - 10

Those of you who are long-time Wallingford Center customers will remember Santoro's Books. Carol is still a bookseller to schools, and is trying to buy 100 books for Page Ahead, a local charity which gives new books to children who are unable to afford them.

Crackerjack wants to join the effort and help raise funds, as well as find out what books were your growing-up favorites! We will donate a percentage from any of the books we sell during that week, as well as accept any donation you care to contribute. You can also go directly to Carol's Fund Me account and donate directly.

Stop by the store and share with us your favorite book as a kid, and why, and  we'll hold a drawing from the submissions!

Yarn Tour  May 13 - 17th - Participants tour 24 yarn shops! Saturday May 16th we'll be open until 8pm to welcome yarn enthusiasts and everyone else! Present your Yarn Tour Passport for a 10% discount on your purchase!

Good News, Bad News

The Good News -

4 Your Eyes Only Trunk Show!

The Bad News -

After 29 Years of having the same neighboring business across the hallway, I am sorry to say that 4 Your Eyes Only Optical is moving across the street into a storefront on Wallingford Ave. While I am sorry to see Judy, Barb and Vicki go, I am excited for them and happy they will still be neighbors!

We will continue to be active together in promoting the Wallingford neighborhood and business district as a vital and fun place to shop and dine.

Thanks to everyone who came in during April to Support the Bees! And especially those who came and took part in our Spa Day - it was great fun, and we raised some money for and awareness  of the Puget Sound Beekeepers Association!

As always, thank you for supporting local and handmade - it is what allows us to continue to be here.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Koch
