At the Y, we value you as a member and count on you to help us serve you and our community.  On October 29th you received an email inviting you to participate in our survey.  If you have not already done so, please follow this link now. We value your comments and your time, so when you participate, you'll be entered into a drawing for a free month of membership dues.  We hope you'll tell us how we're doing, "good" or "not so good," we need to know!

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation's Student Leaders® Program is accepting applications for the 2014 Student Leaders® program.
 
The program helps students gain a greater understanding of how nonprofits create impact in the community and helps develop them as the next generation of community leaders through two components:boy in chair

 

  • A summer eight-week paid internship with a nonprofit organization selected by the bank.
  • The week-long, all-expense paid Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 13-18, 2014.

 

Students can apply for the

program by going to www.bankofamerica.com/studentleaders. Please note the application opens on October 28, 2013 with a deadline of January 31, 2014.

YOUTH SUPER SPORTS BASKETBALL

Coming this winter at the Y:basketball boy
Youth Super Sports trained coaches introduce the basic skills and rules of basketball.  Some of the fundamentals included are dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, and ball handling.  Good sportsmanship and character development are emphasized.  Fitness concepts include fitness for the heart, lungs, and muscles, flexibility, and healthy eating.
  
Registration is currently open for Youth Super Sports Basketball for ages 4-11.  Players receive a jersey, shorts, certificate and medal.
  
Volunteers are essential to the success of this program.  Please ask how you can get involved.  For more information or to register click here.
FESTIVAL OF TREES

Kick off this holiday season of giving by joining us for  festivities that give back all year long.  All are welcome to join us for the YMCA Festival of Trees supporting the Guardian financial assistance program on November 23rd at the Smithfield Center.  Enjoy live music, food, as well as live and silent auctions. Tickets are available at the Welcome Center, any staff or Board Member, or at the door.

 

FREE Kids Night Out is available at the Y if you are attending the Festival of Trees; pre-registration is required.

The Strong Communities campaign helps make Y programs affordable and accessible to all.  The campaign allows us to open our doors and our hearts to those in need.  Can you help?  Here's what your gift can do for others:

  • $1000 provides a child with a summer of camp fun
  • $500 strengthens a family with six months of membership
  • $250 supports one team to happy familyparticipate in Y sports or a teen to develop leadership skills
  • $100 provides one child with one week of quality before and after school child care
  • $50 raises a child's self-esteem through participation in a youth sport
  • $25 protects a child from harm by giving them a session of swim lessons
