NATIONAL NIGHT OUT  The Smithfield Police Department is sponsoring a unique crime, drug, and violence prevention program on August 6th called "National Night Out."

Activities will be held in the Riverview area of downtown Smithfield, on the lawn behind the Y, the Library, PDCCC, and the gym at the Y.

Various organizations will participate to offer free family fun from 5-8 p.m.; inflatables, hot dogs, games, meet the Police Officers and more!

Child Watch and Youth Lobby are jumping in!    In efforts to expand our healthy living initiatives, as well as enjoy some new summer fun, Child Watch and Youth Lobby participants now have the option to swim on Fridays from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Each child should bring a bathing suit, towel, and swim diaper (if needed).  Child Watch staff members will accompany the children into the pool.

  
Calling all second graders - Learn to Swim! 
Any 7 or 8 year old child attending Isle of Wight schools is eligible to participate in the Y's Learn to Swim program FREE of charge.  We are offering 8 swim lessons starting August 12, Monday-Thursday for two weeks from 10:00-10:45 a.m.  The Welcome Center staff will be glad to assist you in registering for the Learn to Swim program.

Summer Swim Lessons

We still have swim lessons available throughout July and August.  These two week sessions run Monday-Thursday in the morning.  Please call the Welcome Center at 365-4060 for starting dates and times.  Email Caitlyn O'Hara, Aquatics Director, if you have any questions about which class is perfect for your child.

Be part of a team!

Is your child ready for competitive swimming?  The YMCA intra-branch swim league is a program designed to foster competitive swimming skills in an environment that promotes the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.  Our Swim Team starts September 3rd.  Registration begins July 22nd.

We now offer a summer fitness program for your 11 or 12 year old.  After having an ActivTrax orientation participants are able to use the Wellness Center from 1-4 p.m., Monday-Friday during the summer.  Email Glenn Lyttle for more information.

It's not too late to register for these Specialty Camps.  They run 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for ages 5-12.  Please call the Welcome Center at 365-4060 or email Brandon Fry for more information about Specialty Camps or require pre- or post-camp care.
