LIVING BETTER WITH ARTHRITIS

May is Arthritis Awareness Month, and as a leading GIRL ON EX BALL organization working to improve the nation's health and well-being, the Y wants to help older adults overcome the obstacles of living with arthritis.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, arthritis is the nation's most common cause of disability, and the physical and emotional pains of the condition can limit the vitality of older adults, impeding their ability to live the active lives they desire and deserve.  In addition, arthritis contributes to depression, anxiety and chronic health conditions including heart disease and diabetes.

Keeping physically active is critical to managing arthritis.  The benefits - reduced pain and improved function, mobility and mood.  If someone you know is dealing with arthritis, encourage them to explore walking, running, swimming, group exercise, weight lifting and other options for physical activity that are plentiful at the Y.
