PALCUS announces the 2014 Annual Leadership Awards Gala in the Washington, D.C. area - October 11, 2014

 

PALCUS is pleased to announce that the 2014 Leadership Awards Gala will take place in the Washington, D.C. area on Saturday, October 11, 2014. The venue is the historic Oxon Hill Manor in Oxon Hill, Maryland. The "Black and White" theme will enhance the elegance of this picturesque setting overlooking the Potomac River. Mark you calendar for the entire Columbus Day weekend to take advantage of all the activities that will be planned in the Washington metropolitan area. Details to follow.

About the PALCUS Leadership Awards

 

Since 1996, PALCUS has recognized and honored Portuguese-American individuals and organizations who have distinguished themselves through outstanding personal accomplishments and/or exemplary service to the community.  Awards are represented in a variety of fields including but not limited to Education, Artistic Achievement, Community Service, Public Service, Business/Entrepreneurship, Athletic Achievement, Scientific Achievement, Social Justice, Humanitarian Service and Philanthropy. Some past honorees have included Meredith Vieira, Nelly Furtado, Mel Ramos, Judge Phillip Rapoza, and Energy Secretary Ernest J. Moniz as well as numerous individuals and organizations in service to the Portuguese-American community. A list of all past honorees is attached here for your information.

 

Why leadership awards?

 

The PALCUS Leadership Awards program not only honors the accomplishments of these individuals and organizations but benefits our community by:

  • Fostering "Portuguese Pride" in Portuguese-Americans,
  • Providing inspiration to young Portuguese-Americans and Luso-descendents,
  • Cultivating a network of successful Portuguese-Americans in a broad range of fields that will strengthen opportunities for our community.

Who nominates the award candidates?

 

Nominations for leadership awards are made by PALCUS members. A benefit of PALCUS membership is the opportunity to nominate deserving individuals or organizations for Leadership Awards to be presented at the Annual PALCUS Leadership Awards Gala. A special email invitation to nominate candidates for the 2014 gala has recently been sent.  If you are a member-in-good-standing (dues paid for the current year) and have not received this "Members Only" email, please contact Elisabete Martins at palcus@palcus.org or (202) 466-4664 to verify your membership status and to receive a copy of the rules and nomination form. Deadline for nominations is Friday, May 9th, 2014.

PALCUS Mission

In order to create a singular voice to advocate  for the Portuguese American and Luso-American communities at large, the Portuguese American Leadership Council of the United States Inc. (PALCUS) was founded in 1991  as a 501 © 3 non partisan, non profit, organization headquartered in Washington D.C.
 
The PALCUS mission is to address domestic and international concerns of the  Portuguese American Community.
 
The Council conducts an expanding program of educational and public affairs activities on issues of interest to the Portuguese American community and of salience to the Luso-American Relationship.
 
PALCUS is committed to serving the community through increasingly active government relations efforts, the promotion of a greater awareness of ethnic accomplishments and encouraging stronger ties between Portugal and the United States. In this role PALCUS advance the community professionally, politically and culturally while working to ensure that issues directly affecting our community are addressed through our network of government and community leaders.

PALCUS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated under the laws of the District of Columbia.  Donations are tax deductible to extent allowed by law.
