Born in Batalha, Portugal, the Providence resident moved to the U.S. in 1969 with his family as a child where they settled in the Fox Point neighborhood of the city. The son of working class parents, he was the first member of his family to graduate from college, Brown University, continuing on to earn a J.D. with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law. His career has been marked by numerous successes and accolades. Since his tenure in the U.S. Attorney's Office of the RI District in 2001, he has distinguished himself with successful prosecution of many high-profile cases. The nomination must now be confirmed by the Senate of the RI General Assembly. PALCUS is proud to support Attorney Matos and has launched a letter writing campaign urging the Senate Committee on Judiciary to recommend his confirmation to the full Senate. To date, we have sent a letter of congratulation to Governor Chafee on his excellent choice and a letter urging confirmation to the Chair of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Michael J. McCaffrey and committee members. PALCUS encourages all interested members to join our voice in supporting Attorney Matos' confirmation by writing similar letters to: Hon. Lincoln D.
