issue 101  l  sept 26 2013
Greetings Members and Friends,

Twenty seven days until we are together in NYC! This issue of enews highlights a few happenings the week of October 21-25.

Monday, The Juilliard School has generously donated tickets to
Alan Gilbert Conducting the Juilliard Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in Works by Bartok and Bruckner.

Tuesday, Lincoln Center Education is providing a workshop called,
Public Art & The Capacities for Imaginative Learning featuring monumental, site-specific sculptures by Aaron Curry: Melt to Earth, at the Lincoln Center's Josie Robertson Plaza.

Wednesday evening, Gensler is hosting a reception in their Rockefeller Center suite. As architects, designers, planners and consultants, they partner with clients on projects as small as a wine label or as large as a new urban district. Their work reflects an enduring commitment to sustainability and the belief that design is one of the most powerful strategic tools for securing lasting competitive advantage.

Our Counselor/College/Career Committee has pulled together a professional development strand of content stretching from Tuesday through Friday. Please see the content, panelists, and presenters below.

The Counselor/College/Career Committee wants to reach out to Arts High School Counselors and provide greater support and networking opportunities. Please share this enews with your relevant staff and ask them to take our brief guidance counselor survey. They are also seeking more guidance counselors for their committee. Interested persons can register to serve here.

Together, we are getting better and better!

Sincerely,
Kristy Callaway
Executive Director
Arts Schools Network

the juilliard school
nyc

Alan Gilbert began his appointment as Director of Conducting and Orchestral Studies at The Juilliard School in the fall of 2011. He has been the first holder of Juilliard's William Schuman Chair in Musical Studies since 2009. Mr. Gilbert is the principal teacher for all conducting majors at the School.

Under his direction, the program is designed to create a rich and multi-faceted educational center for conductors, providing students with the necessary technical training in addition to an extensive exploration of the background and culture of music and orchestras.

Through this comprehensive approach, Mr. Gilbert aims to provide students with the insight and understanding that a modern conductor needs to meet the many and diverse demands that the profession now requires.

Mr. Gilbert continues as holder of the Schuman Chair in which he actively has participated in coaching and performance master classes with instrumentalists, singers, and chamber ensembles, as well as conductors.

The academic/performing and fine arts curricula have been designed to allow students to be artistically creative in a field of their choosing; yet the academic program remains the foundation of all educational development.
