UT Article May 17, 2012 - Jamul casino plan drawing praise, scorn

JAMUL - The Jamul Indians said they wanted public feedback, and they're getting it.

In recent weeks, the East County tribe has received dozens of letters and emails from Jamul-area residents and others eager to weigh in on its proposal to build a three-level casino on its small reservation.

The $230 million project would rise next to a two-lane stretch of rural state Route 94 and would include a wastewater treatment plant, a fire station and two large parking structures.

Previous casino proposals floated by the tribe over the years were widely opposed in Jamul. The tribe's current, scaled-back plan is drawing criticism from county Supervisor Dianne Jacob and others, much of it focused on the traffic impact.
