Dana Blasi · Top Commenter · CEO/ Bellman at Gaslamp Hotel Management, Inc.

The proposed Jamul casino sits on HWY 94 (CA SR 94) about half way between Rancho San Diego Town Center (SR 54) and Otay lakes road, a distance of about 10 miles. There are 4 schools situated on or just off this route. From 1997 to 2006 ( a 9 yr period) this 10 mile stretch of 2 lane road had 452 accidents ( a little less than 1 per week , week after week, for 9 years) 189 injury accidents resulting in 18 deaths. The proposed casino has 2,100 parking spaces and is estimated to generate as many as 10,000 cars per day. Currently Jamul has about 8,000 residents, so maybe 5,000 drivers for it's 2,900 households. HWY 94 has the current distinction of being statistically "the most dangerous HWY in California" now imagine tripling the traffic? Does it become 3 accidents per week? 63 injury accidents per year? does 18 deaths become 54 deaths? And if not , why not? If so how many of those future "statistics" will be going to those 3 schools? Now you see why 95% of Jamul's residents oppose this project and have done so for the last 19 years.  P.S. and we have not even talked about the traffic impact on Jamul Dr., Otay Lakes Road, Japatul Rd and Steele Canyon Rd. Please help stop this project.

  • Jenny Rau Gagliard - Thank you Dana for your comments about the casino. Many have opinions, but your facts? There is no argument. Thank You for standing up for Jamul........
  • Dana Blasi  - Jenny Rau Gagliard  thank's Jenny "Facts and the truth indeed are stubborn things" they don't go away .Special Interests may ignore them, reporters may avoid them, the greedy may wish they could hide them, but guess what ? In the morning, those darn things, they're still there!

Raoul Contreras· Top Commenter · SDSU (San Diego State University) - The Indians have the right to build this and thsoe folks who live in Jamul do not have the right to stop this project, neither does the county. If the Feds approve the project that should end the argument. What gall these Jamulians have to try to stop the project. Cal Trans will have to solve the traffic problem and I'm sure the Indians will have to contribute money towards that effort. If they do, what is the problem?

  • Eh D Frow · Top Commenter  - Really! The gall of those Jamulians to try to preserve their way of life in their small east county town.  BTW - Cal Trans has yet to solve ANY traffic issue, and why would they "have to?"
  • Araceli Orona - Lakeside was transformed in the very negative way those of Jamul fear. Now, day and night, there are buses running and when we used to be like a normal community, things quieted down in the evening, not so any more. Its round-the-clock traffic and cars. The roads get thrashed; a nearby park-n-ride had to have the asphalt resurfaced because of the buses - which misuse the right-turn-on-red rule to avoid having to wait at a red light. They turn right into the p-n-r, do a large loop, and then turn right to get out and onto Highway 67.  The community fears are valid and your arguments of Indian rights, steamroll right over the rights of all those not part of the Indian community. Basically what you're saying is "we want what we want and too bad if it ruins your community".
  • Kande-Anne Hall Revetta · Jamul, California - Raoul sound as though you might have some financial interest. The problem is the community cannot handle the impact. For example Sycuan has made a horrible impact on traffic and crime in East County. There have been minimal to no road improvements whatsoever. Accidents, theft, road rage, and never an officer around to get these people. To drive Dehesa road or Willow Glen is scary especially at night or on the weekends. The "bingo" buses are out of control as well. They need to step up and solve ALL the problems that come with building these casinos before they allow more to be built. I agree they are very charitable, but lives, safety, and peace should come before the $$$$ unfortunately these days all people see is the $$$ and this is why not only is east county in shambles especially the city of El Cajon, horrible all because everyone just wants to take the $$$$ and get the $$$ nobody seems to really care anymore, SAD. All should remember there is no amount of $$$ that can bring back someone's life!
  • Clark Curtin · Top Commenter · UCLA/CAL POLY SLO/CAL POLY POMONA - The problem, Raoul, is that if Cal-Trans fixes the problem, the bulk of the money will come from taxpayers' pockets who will receive no benefit.

QUESTIONS Still Remain!!!!!

Where will the tribe get the money to build?

Where did they get the money to hire Summit Project Management and MJE Marketing?

Where will the tribe get the money to pay Lakes Entertainment back?

When will Caltrans present their "Environmental Review" of ingress and egress?

Has the Catholic Diocese been notified their landlocked cemetary will now have casino in front of it?

Rancho Jamul Estates. The tribe is tapped in before their neighborhood.  Will Otay Water put in more pumps to keep up the pressure? Who is going to pay for it?

SDG&E. Now that the substation is not going to be built on the Simpsons property, where will the tribe get enough power? Will Jamul experience brown and black outs because of the drain?

The past environmental reviews failed. What makes the tribe, let alone another developer, think this one will pass?
