In an effort to get to know Jeff a little bit better, Patty Villeneuve, President/CEO of the Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce recently asked Jeff three important questions. - If you could sit on a bench in a beautiful wooded area, who would you like sitting next you on the bench and why? Jeff answered "my soon to be wife-Tish, because I love her".
- If you were to create a slogan for your life, what would it be? Jeff answered "I wish I could turn back the clock, I'd find you sooner & love you longer".
- If you woke up tomorrow as an animal, what animal would you choose to be and why? Jeff answered "a grizzly bear so I could stand in a river and catch salmon all day long".

History Highlights
From the Cave Creek Museum
Kraig Nelson, docent
The Desert Foothill's growth was ignited by fortune-seeking gold and silver miners, territorial status in 1863 (revenue from gold was important during the Civil War for President Lincoln), and Army protection from the marauding Tonto Apaches and Yavapais. The Army was locally garrisoned at Camp (later Fort) McDowell, established in 1865. There was another, sometimes overlooked factor, and that was the Desert Land Act of 1877 (part of the Homestead Act of 1862). Historian Dr. Patrick Grady states," I came to discover that homesteading was actually at the heart of Cave Creek's growth and settlement. Ultimately, over 100 homesteaders patented [received a U.S. government land-deed] nearly 37,000 acres in the Cave Creek area."

What is it? What do they do? Why is it important to my business? What is the return on investment for my business?
In 2014 the Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce was invited to become a member of EVCCA. Besides Patty Villeneuve, President/CEO of Carefree Cave Creek Chamber, the Alliance includes Chamber Executives from Fountain Hills, Scottsdale, Tempe, Gilbert, Mesa, Apache Junction, Chandler and Queen Creek. In addition to the Chamber Executives the Alliance also includes up to two appointed volunteers from each of the Chambers mentioned. These volunteers almost always serve on the Board or other leadership capacity of each of the Chambers.
The EVCCA advocates for sound principles of economic competitiveness. We believe that regulations and policies must promote economic growth and prosperity, Government must operate efficiently to maximize service, Government rules should enhance safety while not being overly burdensome, tax policy must enhance the business environment to promote job growth, diversification and business expansion, an educated workforce directly impacts business attraction and retention, infrastructure improvements are critical to growth and competitiveness and Arizona's image impacts business.

Chamber's Intern Scholarship Program
Do you know about the Chamber's Intern Scholarship program? It was established in 2010 by one of the Chamber's Past Board Chairmen, Noah Kendrick. It is a great partnership between Cactus Shadows High School, The Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce and our local business community.
Each year 600 raffle tickets are sold raising $6000. Fifty percent of the money goes to a lucky winner in the 50/50 drawing. The other fifty percent goes to a winner (or winners) of the scholarship.
To be eligible to apply for the scholarship the student must attend Cactus Shadows High School, participate in the Career & Technical Education (CTE) program and be interning at a Chamber member business.
The winners of past scholarships include students that have gone on to four year universities to study Business, Finance, Mechanical Engineering and Fashion Design, to name a few.
Are you interested in learning more about how one of these interns can be a benefit to your business? You are invited to attend a special presentation and meeting on Tuesday November 16 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Cactus Shadows High School. Several students will be presenting in the areas of marketing, finance, management, film, TV, journalism, entrepreneurship, etc.
Space is limited so please RSVP to the Chamber office at 480 488-3363 before November 9th if you would like attend this event.

Town of Carefree Update
Burying APS Lines under Carefree Drive at its intersection with Cave Creek Road: As a follow-up to the recent Town Council decision to have gateways constructed at two primary locations, the Council authorized $98,000, plus a 20% contingency, in order to bury the APS electrical lines under the pavement at the gateway location on Cave Creek Road. APS will handle this construction project, which may start as early as within a week. Anticipated completion timing is two to three weeks.
Additionally, Council Member Melissa Price identified that local businessman and building contractor, Gale Totten, has generously agreed to donate the construction of the foundations under both of the new gateways.
Note: The next regular meeting of the Carefree Town Council is scheduled to be at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, November 10th, 2015, a week later due to the November Election Day. The Agenda for this meeting will be published on the Carefree Town Website: www.Carefree.org.

Don't Forget to Vote
November 3, 2015
Election Facts:
15% Maintenance and Operations Override Election
Will generate approximately $4.2 million dollars
100% of dollars will go to the classroom: Teachers, Programs, Materials
This is to replace the over 3 million in charter dollars that were eliminated by the Legislature last session and the reserves depleted by insurance and inflation costs.
Tax burden increase is less than $10 per month on the average homeowner with a $400,000 home.
With the removal of the tax for the charter dollars at approximately $8.00 per month on an average home, the net tax is $2.00 per month on an average home.
**************************************************************
