Dear Friends, Safety can never be assumed. When we take measures to assure our own safety as well as that of our families, we reduce the likelihood for accidents to happen or cause injury. Smoke detectors are a common concern. Making sure they are functional is critical to your well being. If your units were built in 2007, and they malfunction, get them replaced. Apparently there was a bad batch that year. If you know the builder or perhaps the electrical contractor, speak with them , as they may get you replacement units at little or no cost.

Water Damage is Insipid
You never know where you might find it. You notice a soft spot in a floor, or on an outside wall, or on the roof of your house. Or discoloration. Whatever the telltale signs, water has been getting into the wrong area in you house for some time. A window isn't properly flashed, or the siding or j channel hasn't been properly installed. Or roof flashing hasn't been properly installed. We see or hear of these situations every year as building and remodeling contractors. You can choose to turn a blind eye, but you may increase the damage, Or you may have mold growing in your walls. Yalzools, you didn't want to hear that right? Tiled showers and tubs and another common culprit. Before you know what is happening, and it can take years , you have enough damage behind the wall to warrant a total remodel , as walls and floors are so damaged that you have to pull out the fixtures and remove the wall and floor covering before you can see the damage. Then you can fix it. If you are sensitive to mold and moister, its especially important to keep and eye out for any signs of water in the wrong place. Signs like soft spots in floors or walls, or discoloration. Always make sure the caulk and grout in you bathroom is tightly sealed . If not, have a qualified person recaulk or regrout. Regrouting is really quite inexpensive when compared to a complete remodel later to repair the damage. -Jim Maust
