Dear Marist Young Adults,
Happy Easter! Many of you will have or have had a spring break. Even if you do not , it's important to take a moment to refresh and renew yourself at this time of year and to experience some joy after the long, dark and cold winter. It is no coincidence that the Easter season falls about the same time as spring break. The joy of the resurrection at Easter brings the light back to our world after the darkness. Both spring break and the resurrection are intended to bring us back to life. Even though winter has seemed eternal for many of us around the United Sates, it is the hope of the Resurrection which is truly eternal.
I hope that our online Lenten retreat, the resources suggested on facebook and twitter, the daily prayers on our app. and our blog posts have been able to bring a little light into your life during the past month. Please visit our website to look for future social, spiritual and service opportunities to help ypu to continue your growth as a Marist Christian.
As always if you have any thoughts or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at matt@maristyoungadult.com.
Peace,
Matt Fallon
Chair, Marist Young Adult Advisory Committee

Made In A Free World has created a three part video campaign to educate and inspire people to work against modern day slavery such as human trafficking and the child sex trade. The videos of Dr. King's march on Selma and protests at the Berlin wall and Tiananmen Square give people the opportunity to insert themselves into the footage and share the videos with others. By uploading the video, individuals are pledging themselves to eradicate forced labor. The theme of the campaign is "You couldn't be there then, but you can be here now for the 27 million people trapped in slavery today." To access the site, click on the image above. How did you get involved with Marist?
I got involved with the Marist community in my freshman year in high school. I was chosen to go to the Marist Youth Leadership Conference in Esopus and after that I was an active member in Marist Youth, leading retreats in Esopus for underclassmen at Molloy, being on the Lantern committee and volunteering at the summer camps in Esopus. And once I started, I knew I couldn't live my life without being involved in the Marist community.
Why are you still involved with the Marist community?
I am still involved because I can't picture my life without being Marist. Being Marist is what makes up a lot of who I am, and I can't imagine my life without having my home in Esopus or having my Marist family.
How do you live out your Marist identity today?
I live out my Marist identity by trying to do one good deed a day to help others like Marcellin did. I also have a stronger faith because I am Marist and continue to strengthen my relationship with God. I also live out my Marist identity by making the Marist Young Adult program a major priority in my busy life by tweeting for the MYA Program and leading retreats. |
