Declaration of Independents

Yes, you read that right. Not sure where the first six months of 2014 have gone but we will all soon be celebrating 4th of July!

Independents Week
Here's some food for thought as we prepare for one of our country's biggest holidays (Independence Day!). An organization called Local First is celebrating the 12th Anniversary of National Independents Week from Sunday, June 29th through Sunday, July 6th, 2014! During this week, they are encouraging all of us to "go local" by supporting as many locally owned businesses as possible. I am asking you, my friends and family from all over the country, to join the thousands of consumers and hundreds of businesses who participate in the celebration of the local and independent businesses that are the backbone of our nation's economy. And they are what make our country great. In Arizona? Here's a quick link to all of the fun, money saving and exciting possibilities for you to check out: Local First Arizona.

It's Your Party - Don't Make Me Cry

Along with the celebrations you are planning, allow me to plant a few green seeds. Please don't make it a plastic/paper plate, table cloth, knives and forks, cups, throw-everything-in-the-landfill kind of celebration. If you want to take the time to watch this oldie but goodie Mrs. Green video, great! If not, please make celebrating Mother Earth part of your festivities. Glass pitchers of water with fresh lemons, real table cloths, plates that don't soak up your baked beans and get everything else soggy, reusable containers for the left-overs. And for grilling? NO CHARCOAL LIGHTER FLUID! Not trying to shout, just trying to get your attention on this one. Tons of chemicals, bad for the air we breathe and it gets right into your food. You get the picture. (You can build your party collection by visiting your local Goodwill Industries or Habitat for Humanity's Habistore.)

Speaking of Food...drum roll please!
Our food series "What Am I Eating and Why Should I Care: It All Starts with Your Fork" website page is up. I hope you enjoy listening to and learning from over the top thought leaders and change makers as much I enjoyed interviewing and learning from them. Each of the guests informs, inspires and educates about issues which are of major importance to us and to our planet. All of the content was relevant to why what we eat, where our food comes from and why we should care can help each of us live a more sustainable and healthier life. Please enjoy AND share with those you love.

FED UP, the Movie, the Movement

Producer Laurie David

For the past 30 years, everything we thought we knew about food and exercise is dead wrong. Laurie David, author of The Family Dinner, Oscar-winning producer of An Inconvenient Truth, and outstanding thought leader in our time, is now part of yet another shocker. FED UP is the film the food industry doesn't want you to see. From Katie Couric, Laurie David, and director Stephanie Soechtig, FED UP will change the way you eat forever. Not sure if Mr. Green is ready for another MAJOR shift.  Are you? This show sponsored by Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona

Self-Reliance in an Urban World

Survivalist Cody Lundin

I believe that Cody Lundin is one of a kind.  I guess we all are but you know what I mean. Cody is an internationally recognized professional survival instructor with more than 25 years of hands on teaching experience. His love of all things began as a child with the influence of his homesteading grandparents. Their rural South Dakota lifestyle of living close to the land and doing more with less was Cody's first exposure to what the family still calls, "that good ol' pioneer spirit."  I will be challenged to find a wilderness experience that Cody has not pioneered or lived through. But not as challenged as I will be to find one that I have. Cody is one of a kind and this is my first show of this kind - ever.  This show is sponsored by The Fairfax Companies

The Edge of Existence
Peter Young, Director, The Last Ocean
Spectacular, urgent, absorbing, informative, glorious, powerful. That's what the critics are saying about the film. Join me to find out what award winning director, Peter Young, has to say about The Ross Sea, Antarctica - the most pristine stretch of ocean on Earth. It's a vast, frozen landscape that teams with life - whales, seals and penguins carving out a place on the very edge of existence. Wow just doesn't cut it. This show sponsored by Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona.
