2016 Annual Benefit Reception & Auction


On WednesdayApril 13, 2016, Support Center for Child Advocates (Child Advocates) will celebrate 39 years of outstanding pro bono legal and social service advocacy at our Annual Benefit Reception & Auction at the Crystal Tea Room. Over 1,000 legal, corporate and individual supporters will join us for a one-of-a-kind cocktail reception, silent and live auction. 

This year's event will honor philanthropists and community leaders, 
Penny and Robert Fox, with the 2016 Judge Lois G. Forer Child Advocacy Award for their commitment to Philadelphia's youth and years of engagement with Child Advocates

The evening will also celebrate the extraordinary efforts of friends who devote countless hours to improving the lives of traumatized children. The 2016 Distinguished Advocates for Children are: Joseph A. Arnold, Gordon & Rees LLP; Marguerite C. Gualtieri, Support Center for Child Advocates; Beth Hanssens; Sarah Richards, Humble, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP; Katherine M. Katchen, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP; Angel R. KuchtaAmtrak; Christopher M. Mikson MD, Mayer Brown LLP; Jill Porter
and Mark W. Tanner, Feldman Shepherd Wohlgelernter Tanner Weinstock Dodig, LLP, who will receive the Eddie Ohlbaum Distinguished Advocate for Children Award.

Center for Excellence in Advocacy

Over 50 people attended the "How to Handle a Child Abuse Case" Volunteer Training Workshop on January 26th at Ballard Spahr.

The Center for Excellence in Advocacy started the new year with a packed schedule. Our team has trained a variety of child welfare, education, health care and human services agencies throughout the five county region, and have trainings scheduled at Police Athletic League of Philadelphia, Central MH/MR, Indian Creek Foundation, Delaware County CASA, and Widener University.
 
Webinar Series:
Child Advocates, in partnership with the Juvenile Law Center, is hosting an 8-part webinar series to address many of the common issues involved in transition planning for youth with disabilities.
All sessions are free and offer 1.0 CLE credits and 1.0 CEU credits.*

Congratulations!
Executive Director, Frank Cervone, and Center for Excellence in Advocacy Project Manager, Meghan Johnson, worked extensively with Western Schools, a nationally accredited and widely recognized leader in continuing education for healthcare professionals, to develop an Act 31 approved curriculum for healthcare providers throughout Pennsylvania. The training manual, "Pennsylvania Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting," was published in early 2016.

37th Annual Philadelphia Bar Association
5K Run/Walk

  
Join us for the 37th Annual Philadelphia Bar Association 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park. Come out and race to help abused children find more stable lives.

This event attracts more than 1,300 runners and walkers of all ages each year, and it is one of the oldest and most respected events of its kind in the City of Philadelphia! The Run/Walk format provides the opportunity for athletes of all levels to participate in this charity event, organized by the Philadelphia Bar Association to spotlight its concern for the children of Philadelphia and to benefit the Support Center for Child Advocates.
