Stoneleigh Foundation's
Emerging Leader Fellowship Presentation
From left: Dr. Chris Kenty, Stoneleigh Emerging Leadership Fellow Megan Stephens and Stoneleigh Program Officer Brittany Anuszkiewicz
For the past year, we have benefited from the hard work and expertise of Megan Stephens. Coming to us as a Stoneleigh Emerging Leadership Fellow, Meghan helped to analyze and improve our Case Management and Client Outcomes Measurement Database. Child Advocates has developed and implemented a sophisticated database to track and evaluate case practice to elevate the field of child representation.
On June 16th, Megan delivered her final project presentation to the Stoneleigh Foundation. She reported on all the improvements to our database that she has helped design.
Megan was instrumental in improving our practice. She was able to assess needs, sharpen the functionality and user-friendliness of the database, and to analyze data. Her recent staff survey showed that the staff is now much more positive about the database and its usefulness for practice.
Megan Stephens is finishing her Master's Degree in Data Analytics and Cybersecurity at Temple University's Fox School of Business and will join the staff at QVC.
Thank you for all your hard work, Megan!

Meet the Staff: Xia Chen
Xia Chen, Staff Accountant, has worked for Child Advocates for more than 8 years. She received her bachelor's degree at Shanghai Normal University in American Literature and Education. In 1998, Xia moved with her husband from Shanghai, China to Philadelphia. Because of her aptitude for working with numbers, she pursued her MS in Accounting at Drexel University.
It was the mission of Child Advocates that drew Xia to us. As a mother, she understands the need for child advocacy in the community. After reading an article on child abuse and the Support Center for Child Advocates, Xia knew this would be a good fit. In her role as Staff Accountant, Xia handles the daily financial operations for the agency. By providing data and preparing financial statements for the management team and advising the Finance Committee and Board of Directors, she is able to do her part "in the background" to help improve children's lives. Her favorite part of her job is contributing to the mission through numbers.
A devoted mother of two, Xia enjoys reading Time magazine, going to concerts, improving her piano skills and having potluck meals with friends. Her favorite quote, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade," enables her to overcome the challenges she faces and to keep her sense of humor in all situations.
Thanks for all you do, Xia!

Child Advocates hosted 2 full days of training in Chester County (June 5th) and Montgomery County (June 24th) as part of county-wide mini-summits that each included full-day training opportunities. The morning session, "Vicarious Trauma and Burnout: The Ethics of Self-Care When Managing Clients in Crisis," provided an overview of the interrelated dynamics of vicarious trauma, job stress and burn-out, focusing on self-care strategies as an integral part of professional ethics. The afternoon session, "Dependency Law Update 2014: A Review of Significant Appellate Decisions and Legislation," covered the latest Court decisions regarding dependency law and provided an overview of the amendments to the Child Protective Services Law.
