The first comprehensive overview of the art of Norman Lewis presents this pivotal figure in American art, a participant in the Harlem art community, an innovator of Abstract Expressionism and a politically-conscious activist. Covering the 1930s to 1970s, the 60 paintings and works on paper reveal the work that remains, even today, less well known than his contemporaries.

Artists in Residence
DCASE and the Joyce Foundation are pleased to present artists and curators in residence at the Chicago Cultural Center. Currently on view in the center's Garland Gallery, you can visit public studio artists-in-residence Alejandro Figueredo Diaz-Perera and Cara Megan Lewis on Monday through Saturday afternoons as they work on the project 34,000 Pillows. This project will be followed by Nicole Marroquin and Andres L. Hernandez (Fall/Winter) and Aram Han Sifuentes (Winter). Also, Rashayla Marie Brown, Jacob Yeung and Paola Cabal are working as artists-in-residence in private studios, and curatorial fellows Cecilia Leonora Vargas and JGV/WAR (J. Gibran Villalobos and Wil A. Ruggerio) are working with the artists in residence and staff to create an exhibition in the spring in the Chicago Cultural Center's Michigan Avenue Galleries. These residencies are made possible through a generous grant from the Joyce Foundation.

The Search for Chicago's Christmas Tree
The City of Chicago is looking for a tree to grace Millennium Park this holiday season and serve as the City's "official" Christmas tree! Through October 21, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events will accept tree nominations from the Chicagoland area. The family of the selected tree will get the opportunity to "flip the switch" and light the tree at the 103rd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 18 in Millennium Park. Visit cityofchicago.org/dcase for nomination criteria and process.
