The Juicebox family music and performance series brings hip hop, world music, jazz and more to entertain and educate young children this winter and spring. Geared toward the "stroller set" but enjoyed by the whole family, performers at the free series include The Q Brothers, Alma Afrobeat Ensemble and Trio Mokili. The series runs 11-11:45am, January 15 to May 21 on alternating Fridays at the Chicago Cultural Center and Saturdays at the Garfield Park Conservatory. View the full schedule here.

Guest curated by Edra Soto and Josue Pellot, the exhibition Present Standard gathers 25 works by 25 contemporary, US-based Latino artists whose works play with the manifold meanings of "present" - as in contemporary, attending or existing - and "standard" - referring to a flag or pennant, measuring tactic, guiding principle or a potent symbol of national identity. Visit the website for more information on the exhibition and related public programs.

| Thank You to Our Volunteers
Did you know that the folks who greet you and give tours at the Chicago Cultural Center are volunteers? And these are just two of the exceptional ways they help support DCASE. For more information on how to become a volunteer, visit our webpage. Last month, we recognized our volunteers at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast - and we give special thanks to Mr. Finis Abernathy, who has greeted visitors to the building for over 10 years and sadly passed away recently.

The Strandbeests are Coming
Blurring the lines between machine and animal, art and science, sculpture and performance, Strandbeest: The Dream Machines of Theo Jansen is making its Midwest debut next month at the Chicago Cultural Center. Dutch artist Theo Jansen has spent the last 25 years developing his uncanny and beautiful Strandbeests - or "beach creatures" - which today have become a global phenomenon. There's more information on the exhibition and accompanying public programs at chicagoculturalcenter.org.
