How does one heal from mental illness? Can Truong, a Vietnam war refugee, was a model student when he was diagnosed with depression and bipolar disorder and his life fell apart. The stigma of mental illness exists in most cultures and particularly within the Asian American community. But with one in four Americans dealing with mental illness every year, it's an issue that impacts most of us.

Screening: BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez with Director Sabrina Schmidt Gordon 
The life and thoughts of this iconic poet, playwright, teacher, activist whose existence is art and politics, and mesmerizing. With appearances by Questlove, Talib Kweli, Ursula Rucker, Amiri Baraka, Haki Madhubuti, Jessica Care Moore, Ruby Dee, Yasiin Bey, Ayana Mathis, Imani Uzuri and Bryonn Bain, this film examines Sanchez's contribution to the world of poetry, her singular place in the Black Arts Movement and her leadership role in African American culture over the last half century. Co-sponsored with 
the Documentary Forum at CCNY, the City College Performing Arts Center, The Maysles Cinema, CCNY Poetry Outreach Center, the Black Documentary Collective, and the Black Studies Program at CCNY. This film opens the Media Magic Mt. Vernon International Film Festival, presented at The City College of NY's Marion Anderson Theatre in Aaron Davis Hall. RSVP to Eventbrite.

New York Media Arts Map List of Funding Opportunities

NYSCA Individual Artists
The New York State Council on the Arts supports New York State Individual Artists for the creation of new work through artist-initiated projects in electronic media and film production. Documentaries are only funded for post-production. Artists at various career stages are welcome to apply. Artists can only apply through a non-profit organization like TWN.
To apply through TWN, email workshop@twn.org by March 8.

The NBPC 360 Incubator and Fund is a funding initiative of the National Black Programming Consortium (NBPC) devised to help launch multi-part, non-fiction broadcast projects, non-fiction and scripted web serial content, as well as interactive or "trans-media" projects, about the Black experience.

Third World Newsreel Youth Media Internship 
TWN is looking for interns as part of its Youth Media Internship Program. The organization trains college and high school students in three areas of the media industry: digital video post production, film acquisitions, and film distribution & marketing.
