Production Workshop For Immigrant/First-Generation High School Girls
NYWIFT will be producing a one-day production workshop taught by Third World Newsreel for girls in high school (juniors and seniors) who are immigrants or first-generation Americans.
This workshop will provide girls with the opportunity to use video as a tool to tell their own stories, through hands-on activities and group collaborations. Topics covered in this workshop include:
* Camera techniques
* Executing interviews
* Shot composition
* Other technical production skills.
By the end of this workshop, participants will have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of video production and will have completed a mini-documentary.
If you or someone you know would be an ideal candidate for this workshop, please email Elizabeth Estrada at info@nywift.org.

CLAIMING OUR VOICE & JUDITH documentaries at the Workers Unite Film Festival
Claiming Our Voice shares the stories of Andolan, an organization founded and led by South Asian immigrant women low-wage workers as a means to support each other and collectively organize against exploitative work conditions. The film follows the women as they create, rehearse and refine acts for their first popular multi-lingual theater performance. Claiming Our Voice seeks to break community silence by allowing women to (literally) set the stage for how their stories will be told.
Judith: Portrait of a Street Vendor is a short documentary that takes the audience on an intimate journey into the daily life of Judith, a street vendor from Guatemala who lives and works in New York City. Judith exposes the routine obstacles she and her fellow immigrant vendors face daily on the city's streets and reveals her own struggles and hopes as an immigrant worker, mother, activist, and community organizer.

Pam Sporn, director of CUBAN ROOTS/BRONX STORIES, is working on a new project about Detroit and she needs your help!
The resilient Detroiters in DETROIT 48202 trace the legacy of people who have been the backbone of Detroit's industry and culture for decades, who have worked hard for the vision of a city that might benefit all of its residents. It is an open-ended narrative that leads us to a Detroit that is at a crossroad. Will the resurgence of the city center on a highly visible, high tech and increasingly white downtown? Or, will it center on the vast stretches of neighborhoods that continue to deal with water shutoffs, tax foreclosures, poor transportation, and underfunded schools? Contribute here!
