TWN sponsors a walk-in series of workshops on various production topics each spring and fall. All are either sliding scale or free, and are presented at various locations.

    

Wednesday, November 5th, 6:30 PM
The Making of NAS: TIME IS ILLMATIC with the Filmmakers
Join Director/Producer One9, Producer/Writer Erik Parker and Associate Producer Martha Diaz  (founder of the NYU Hip-Hop Education Center) as they screen clips and offer insight into the making of NAS: TIME IS ILLMATIC, a documentary that tracks the inspiration behind Nas' classic debut album, Illmatic, and the conditions that created it. Cosponsoredby  the Documentary Forum at CCNY, the Black Studies Program at CCNY, and the Media and Communication Arts Department at CCNY.

Cynthia Lopez, Commissioner, Mayor's Office of Film,Theater and Broadcasting
Hear from the woman who knows everyone in film and on opportunities in film and media in NYC. Ms. Lopez, also a former TWN advisory board member, was the co-executive producer of the premiere documentary series POV as it won 15 Peabody awards and 11 DuPont awards. This event is part of the City College MFA Film Program Open House.

FREEDOM SUMMER Screening and Director Stanley Nelson
Over 10 weeks in the summer of 1964, hundreds of students from across the U.S. came to work with organizers and local African American communities to challenge racism and segregation in the South. Emmy winning director and CCNY alum Stanley Nelson will speak after the screening about the challenges of making this documentary and give tips and advice to emerging filmmakers. 
Cosponsoredby  the Documentary Forum, the Black Studies Program at CCNY, and the Media and Communication Arts Department at CCNY.

The City College of New York MFA Film Program Open House

City College's two-year MFA  program in Media Arts Production is the only graduate-level program of its kind, offering Documentary and Fiction tracks in an affordable and accessible public institution. The MFA Film Program is a culturally diverse filmmaking community, located in New York City, the cultural capital of the world, with ready access to the finest talent, locations, organizations and production facilities.

Tribeca Film Institute Documentary Fund

The TFI Documentary Fund furthers the development of exceptional character-driven, non-fiction works that spotlight contemporary themes with an original focus and bold, creative filmmaking. This fund allows TFI to fund many audience-grabbing genres that fall under the documentary umbrella including arts, sports, hybrid and experimental projects.

Tribeca Film Institute New Media Fund
The TFI New Media Fund provides funding and support to non-fiction, social issue media projects that go beyond traditional screens - integrating video with content across media platforms, from video games and mobile apps to social networks and interactive websites. We're looking for projects that activate audiences around issues of contemporary social justice and equality around the world and demonstrate the power of cross-platform storytelling and dynamic audience engagement. Two to four projects will be accepted, each receiving $50,000 to $100,000 in funding.

Tribeca Film Institute Sloan Filmmaker Fund
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, in partnership with the Tribeca Film Institute, provides funding for narrative features that are scientifically relevant, accurate, and exciting through the TFI Sloan Filmmaker Fund. In addition to financial support, grantees will receive professional guidance and mentorship through the Tribeca Film Institute, as dictated by the unique needs and status of the project and the level of experience of the filmmaking team.

Ford Foundation 
Ford's Social Issue Film Funding Initiative will provide approximately $16 million through an open-application process to filmmakers and media makers around the world who are creating documentaries that address urgent social issues.
