Physicians should watch their mail very closely for insurance plan amendments relating to the Kentucky health benefit exchange, some of which could result in payments at 80 percent of current fee schedules. GLMS recommends that physicians carefully review these plan amendments and make the best decision for their practices on whether to participate.

Many of the insurance companies in the region will be participating in the health benefit exchange, an open marketplace for patients and small businesses to obtain health insurance beginning in January 2014.

Some of the exchange plan amendments are opt-out. Physicians who do not want to participate in these plans must reply in a timely manner (as few as 30 days, in some cases) in order to avoid inclusion in these narrowed networks. For questions or assistance, contact GLMS Senior Advocacy Specialist Stephanie Woods at [email protected] or 502-736-6350.

Kentucky has unveiled the website patients and small businesses will use for the health benefit exchange at http://kynect.ky.gov. Open enrollment will begin on Oct. 1.
