Combining Arts and Heritage to Create New Cultural Hubs
The Grand Isle Lake House provides the backdrop for the Preservation Trust of Vermont's Arts & Culture Heritage Retreat scheduled for October 10 and 11. The retreat brings together arts organizations and cultural heritage experts to develop ways to transform underutilized spaces into cultural hubs. Whether the context is churches doubling as performance venues, historic sites hosting art installations, or industrial spaces being repurposed for community use, the retreat is intended to offer an interesting and inspiring mix of ideas. More information and the registration form is available on the Preservation Trust website.

Arts Ed: Not Just for Kids
Lifelong learners, dedicated to their art, attend workshops, residencies, and summer camps every year. What do they get out of it? Remi Savard said, "The VJC Summer Workshop completely changed my perception of jazz, and music in general. It's like all the advice I've ever gotten, I finally understood, and all the new advice I got, I had an idea of where to go from there. I came away from the camp listening to music for real, and not just hearing it." If you want to find out how that happened, read this week's featured story: " This Lovely Summer Camp."
