Artists Named to Teaching Artist Roster

Eight skilled and talented artists were added to the Council's Teaching Artist Roster earlier this month. A seven-person panel of experts evaluated eighteen applications and based their selection on the artistic quality of the artist's personal work, teaching ability, and ability to collaborate with others.

The Roster is a great resource for schools applying for Artists in Schools grants. The residencies funded through these grants serve as a model for the integration of the arts into the curriculum and community of a school. The artists completing the residency must be selected from the Roster.

Congratulations to the new teaching artists:

Alexis Kamitses (St. Albans): dance and movement
Cardboard Teck Instantute (Montpelier): STEAM and mixed media
Evie Lovett (Westminster West): photography and film
Rebecca Mack (Burlington): visual arts and music
Mark Stein (Burlington): storytelling, theater, and improv
Emily Titterton (Morrisville): visual arts and mixed media
Heather Stearns (Wolcott): visual arts, ceramics, and sculpture
Rebecca Schwarz (Burlington): visual arts, mixed media, and STEAM

Welcome Rachel Stearns!

We are pleased to welcome Rachel Stearns to the Council as administrative associate. Rachel is well suited to her new position having received a Bachelor of Arts in English and visual arts from Fordham University. She joined the Council on June 13 and has already transitioned smoothly into her role supporting the board, executive director, and outreach team.

Rachel has a passion for 35mm black and white photography and has volunteered at a nature center photographing animals from bearded dragons to baby squirrels. We envision adding "official in-house photographer" to her job description.

Rachel recently moved to Vermont from Connecticut. She looks forward to exploring the state with her camera and beloved dog, Goober. She also plans to "eat as many maple creemees as is humanly possible." Please join us in welcoming Rachel to the Council.

Website Accessibility...Finding Your Way

Yes, accessibility for websites is a thing. And, there are a lot of questions about it.

The Council has explored many of these questions, and that work will continue. While it's only the tip of the iceberg, we hope the information in this week's featured story might help with your expedition.
