Burr Red Sox Outing June 16!
|
|
Come celebrate the last week of school and the start of summer with a special Burr PTO outing to see defending World Series Champions the Red Sox!
We have reserved tickets for June 16 in the Grandstand, Sections 42 and 37. Tickets are $25 each (these are less than the cost on the Red Sox site) plus a recommended tax deductible donation of $5 each to help fund the 5th Grade's Moving On events (so $30 total per ticket - still less than ordering online!). The $5 is tax deductible. Please limit requests to 6 per family. If you do want more, send us a note, and if we do not sell out, we will try to accommodate your request.
Payments are due by May 7 so we can place the order with the Red Sox special events office. Checks should be made out to 'BURR PTO' with a note of how many tickets you are ordering, and placed into an envelope in your child's folder labeled '5TH GRADE RED SOX'. We will also have a box in the Burr office for drop offs.
Tickets are First Come, First Served. Note that if fewer than 20 tickets are ordered, the event will be cancelled and your money returned.
If you have any questions, please contact Vicky Gifford at urgiff@gmail.com, 617 548 5636 or Jim Walsh at jim.walsh@mottmacinc.com.
GO SOX!

The May Fair Needs You!
Saturday, May 10, 2014.
|
|
We know it is a nutty time of year and there is so much going on at school and outside of school with spring sports, life and such. However, we need many volunteers to make this event possible!
We are looking for helpers to run games, take tickets, supervise crafts, etc. Please look at the list and pick a time slot that works for you!
Please sign up for shift now:
The Mayfair started in the 60's as a community building event led by some dedicated moms. Back then, it was a swap meet with some simple games and grill. It is still a fun community event. We hope to make a little profit this year to donate to the Playground Fund so that we can have fun playing at Burr for years to come. During the event the winners of the auction and raffle items will be announced and the class gift baskets will be on display. So please stop by for an hour or two and lend a hand and let the kids play.
PLEASE consider signing up for more than one shift. All volunteers will be given free tickets as our way of saying thanks. Kids can help you run a game; they can collect the tickets with your assistance. Dads: We need you too!!! Please look at the Set up/ Clean up or Daddies on the Grill time slots. Bakers: Adults and kids PLEASE bake goodies to be sold at the bake sale, bake a cake for the Cake Walk or find your inner cake boss and decorate a cake. The theme this year is Music. If you have questions please contact Kelly Brown at kellyebrown@verizon.net or anyone on the committee.

New Volunteer Project - Recycling Education
|
|
Green Decade Newton, in collaboration with the City of Newton Department of Public Works, is seeking numerous volunteers (16 years and older) to walk in pairs around Newton's neighborhoods, while adhering "recycling education stickers" onto all residential green bins, during the spring and summer months. Maps will be provided and work will be conducted primarily in the morning hours. The "Recycle Sticker Project" will help remind everyone of what may or may not be placed in our green bins. Funding for the stickers has been provided by Green Decade, Whole Foods Market and Waste Management with a goal to raise awareness about recycling...not only to benefit our environment, but also to reap substantial financial savings on the cost of disposing the City's trash. So, if you enjoy spending time outdoors and want to help increase participation in Newton's recycling program, please contact info@greendecade.org to volunteer.
