 Creative Arts and Sciences Welcomes
Ms. Irene Smalls
October 17, 9:15am
 For Another Great Storytelling Presentation
Irene and the big fine nickel
On October 17th at 9:15am,
Ms. Smalls will present
to the 1st graders
in the Cafetorium
Please note the corrected time.

Author Irene Smalls brings her stories to life in a dramatic presentation for Burr students. She shares how she "became an author in kindergarten" where she learned that "reading was a thing to do that is loud and fun".  Ms. Smalls writes about life, her children, and the world she sees at the tip of her nose.  Her first children's book, "Irene and the Big, Fine Nickel", reflects her fond memories of growing up in Harlem in the 1950s and "Jonathan and His Mommy" is a love song for her son.

Creative Arts and Science programs are
fully funded by the Burr School PTO
Parents are welcome to attend.
BLOP Fridays Start This Week
BLOP! The Burr Green Team is happy to announce the re-launch of last year's successful campaign: BLOP Fridays. Starting this week and every Friday throughout the year, Burr students, staff and parents will be joining forces to reduce waste in our school by practicing the 4 R's (Reduce, Re-purpose, Re-use, Recycle).

BLOP stands for Burr Loves Our Planet, and here's how we'll show it:

* 5th graders will be staffing the cafeteria to help  students reduce lunch-time waste
* Parent volunteers will help with this, and with...
* Basic composting of fruit and veggie scraps (every day, not just Fridays!)
* Everyone will be encouraged to wear a BLOP t-shirt or something green

So get ready to pump up the BLOP, and keep our recycling and composting program in high gear!
