The Door/Kewaunee Business & Education Partnership (DKBEP) is proud to introduce Markie Struck as the new DKBEP Program Manager! Markie comes to the Partnership after a role as a personal banker with Baylake Bank. A Door County native, she looks forward to working with local businesses to help connect students to careers in our area.

On Tuesday, March 15, DKBEP held the annual 8th Grade Career Day event at NWTC. It is very important to expose students to careers as early as possible. Eighth grade students are preparing to enter high school and will be asked to put together a four-year academic plan. Our goal is to give the students:
  • An understanding of career clusters and the variety of occupational opportunities;
  • Information about the skills that employers are looking for;
  • Recommendations about what courses and extracurricular activities they might participate in during their high school years.
On Friday, April 8, at the Stone Harbor Resort, twelve area teams will compete for great prizes in the 5th Annual DKBEP Minute 2 Win It competition. Based on the popular TV game show, team members will be challenged with crazy acts of silliness that could involve Slinkies, Ding Dongs or ping pong balls. The teams are set and the public is invited to enjoy the fun. Doors open at 5:30pm and the games begin at 6:30pm. Enjoy Stone Harbor's heavy hors d'oeuvres, entertainment and a cash bar. A silent auction, Chinese raffle, cooler of booze raffle and door prizes will round out the night of entertainment. It's all in the name of fun and entertainment to raise funds to support DKBEP.
Bay Shipbuilding Company To Build New Tug

Fincantieri Marine Group (FMG) has signed a contract for the construction of an Articulated Tug Barge Unit (ATB) for delivery in late 2017. The contract includes an option for a second ATB unit to be potentially delivered in 2018. The vessels will be built at FMG's Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay.

The new barge will have a capacity of 185,000-barrels with dimensions of 578 feet by 78 feet. The barge will be an 8,000-horsepower unit equipped with new Tier IV engines to meet the latest Environmental Protection Agency emission standards. When complete, the ATB will operate on the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico.

Todd Thayse, Bay Shipbuilding vice president and general manager, said Bay Ship is grateful for the continued support of DCEDC and the City of Sturgeon Bay to allow for expansion of the maritime community. "This support is critical as we continue to enhance our facilities and improve our efficiency to remain competitive in the global shipbuilding industry," Thayse said.
