Great Lakes Water Levels Community Workshop
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nearly 100 people attended the recent Great Lakes Water Levels Community Workshop held in the Collins Learning Center at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay, to learn more about the low water levels affecting the Great Lakes. The workshop was a direct result of the Door Kewaunee Legislative Days event held this past May in Madison; the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program scheduled a series of community workshops around the state this summer to provide an opportunity for local citizens to make their voices heard further on this important issue.
The workshop included a presentation on historic and projected lake water levels, impacts on commercial shipping and shipbuilding by Todd Thayes of Bay Shipbuilding Company, and resources to assist communities and individuals dealing with low water levels.
DCEDC has posted copies of the handouts from the Sturgeon Bay workshop on our website, and WisconsinEye recorded a similar the Community Workshop in Milwaukee, which is available on their video archive. Other resources can be found on the Coastal Management Program website and from the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
