Making Progress in Mozambique with REACT

The mid-term assessment of the Realizing Effective Actions for Children Together (REACT) Project has revealed encouraging results in identifying child labourers, education, and strengthening livelihoods, giving hope that planned targets will be achieved. The project is being implemented in 12 communities in Mozambique's Angonia and Macanga districts, which are major tobacco-growing areas. The project, which runs from 2013 to 2016, aims to reach 4,500 children in child labour in tobacco-growing communities, as well as their families.  Read more.

ILO-IOE Launch Child Labour Guidance Tool for Businesses

In December 2015, the ECLT Foundation joined leaders from the private, public, and civil sectors as part of the Child Labour Platform to discuss how to tackle child labour in supply chains. The platform, a joint initiative of the UN Global Compact and the International Labour Organization (ILO), brings together a variety of stakeholders and sectors twice a year to share best practices to eliminate and prevent child labour.

At the meeting in December, the ILO and the International Organization of Employers launched the Child Labour Guidance Tool for Business, which guides different kinds of companies -- from large multi-nationals to small- and medium-sized businesses -- on how to strengthen their efforts against child labour.

Children in Kyrgyzstan the "Most Important Wealth"

Sultanbay Biymurzaev is a tobacco farmer in Kyrgyzstan. He couldn't be happier that today, all five of his children are able to stay in school and work toward a higher education.

Sultanbay is receiving microcredit loans and is able to participate in a mutual aid group made possible by the ECLT Foundation and implementing partner Alliance on Protection of Child Rights (APCR). The funding opportunities have enabled him to invest in his farming operations and increase his income -- without having to involve his children in the weeding, watering, and harvesting of tobacco

The 43-year-old from the Too-Moyun rural community of Kyrgyzstan says the IMPACT Project helped radically change his outlook on life

ECLT Foundation Joins Decision-Makers at Global Child Forum

Sonia

The 2015 Global Child Forum gathered 400 international decision-makers from business, government, civil society, and academia for dialogue and thought leadership toward a better future for the world's children. The theme for the day was Children's Rights within the Corporate Sustainability Agenda with a special focus on the benefit of cross-sector partnerships.

The ECLT Foundation was honored to make a brief presentation at one of four "Action Labs," focusing on numerous key aspects of child labor and on how the new Sustainable Development Agenda is positioned to support the ECLT Foundation and many others working toward the realization of the rights embedded in our mission.

Thank you for your support -
together we can make a better life for children in tobacco-growing communities!
